In the first case study, Two Men and a Truck, the theories’ relevant to this case were Maslow’s Need’s Hierarchy theory and the Expectancy theory. As to the second case study, Siemens’s unit that produce’s X-ray machines and other diagnostic equipment, the theories relevant to this case were the Job – Enrichment theory and the Goal – Setting theory. An example of Maslow’s Need’s Hierarchy theory in relation to the first case study would be when Ms. Sheets follow’s through in carrying on the moving company established by her son’s before they went off to college. When Ms. Sheets took over control of the company, she found a way to support herself and her children, both those at home and at college; by doing this she instilled a strong set of cultural values in them. Ms. Sheets thought to foster these values in her employee’s. An example of the Expectancy theory as it relates to the first case study is when Two Men and a Truck started placing franchisee’s for the company on the open market. Ms. Sheets cited the home company as an example to whoever bought franchisees; also Ms. Sheets offered a comprehensive training program to those who bought franchisees as well as other employees of the company.

In the second case study, Siemens’s unit that produce’s X- ray machines and other diagnostic equipment an example of the Job- Enrichment theory in relation to this case study would be when Mr. Kleinfeld was promoted before other managers were, this was done because he exhibited a better understanding of the global market. Mr. Kleinfeld used this understanding to motivate Siemens’s other employees. By having the freedom to do the job his way proved to be rewarding both to Mr. Kleinfeld and Siemens’s. Another example, the Goal – Setting theory in relation to this case study would be when the company set specific challenges, which it offered to a certain employee (Mr. Kleinfeld). One of these challenges was for Mr. Kleinfeld to convince Siemens’s other employees to adopt a more flexible work schedule while speeding production.

Mr. Kleinfeld accomplished this through negotiations, while negotiations were in progress, Mr. Kleinfeld was sure to make himself available to other employees. In the first case study, Two Men and a Truck, the cross – functional team approach was employed. This was done by the company when it set up its training facility. At this facility the employees learned the basic operations of the company. The approach that was used in the second case study, Siemans’s unit that produces X- ray machines and other diagnostic equipment, was the top management team approach. Siemens’s promoted Mr. Kleinfeld to a position where he could gather all of the department managers and conveys to them what the C.E.O expected of them.
