The word ‘failure’ should never be used in education

Nelson Mandela said “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. Education is the process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgement, and generally of preparing oneself or others intellectually for matured life. Hence, education is made compulsory for everyone as it is fundamental human right and it helps to improve skills and knowledge of them so that they could gain employment, thereby aiding the country’s development. Whereas, the word failure refers the lack of success, inability to achieve goal and incompetence. As the word failure and the purpose of education is contradicting each other, the word failure should not be used in education at most instances.

Since the purpose of education is to inculcate ideas into students, the word failure should not be use at most instances. This is because the word failure would decrease self-esteem of the students. Low self-esteem can lessen a student’s desire to learn, ability to focus and the willingness to take risks. Low self-esteem will not only impact the student in terms of education, it will also affect the daily lives of them. For example, they will have little faith in their own judgement and be highly vulnerable to peer pressure. This would then affect them in acquiring knowledge and skills that enables them to gain employment in the future. Thus, the word failure should not be used in education at most instances.

Education helps to prepare individuals into becoming part of the future workforce, therefore the word failure should not be used in education at most instances. This is because the word failure might cause the students to lose interest towards the subject. In addition, it would also lower their self-confidence and ability to communicate with others. Low self-confidence would severely limit the career development of a person as they are less willing to take on challenges at work, they would also be less willing to work in teams. As students are unable to express their own feelings and ideas, they will not be able to make good use of the knowledge and skills acquired. Therefore, the word failure should not be used in education at most instances.

However, the word failure should sometimes be used in education so that one can learn from their mistakes. This is so that they get themselves prepared for the workforce where success is not necessarily guaranteed. When students graduated from their respective institution, they would be required to apply what they have learn to their work. At work, it would be inevitable that these students make mistakes as it is their first time doing the job. Hence, it is important for students to know that success should not be taken for granted. Since, education aims to prepare students for the workforce in the future, they should be able to accept failure before entering the workforce. Thus, the word failure should be used at some instances in education.

To sum up, the word education should not be used at some instances since it would affect the students’ interest towards studies. Instead, educators could make use of other methods to help students amend their mistakes so that they would able to make full use of their knowledge and skills acquired when at work in the future.
