School violence is someone harms or threatens to harm a person’s body, feelings, or possessions while in school.
As defined in the Oxford Dictionary, School Violence is a subset of students or teachers violence, physical force exerted for the purpose of violating, damaging, or abusing, the act or an instance of violent action or behavior at school, abuse or injury to meaning, content, or intent, vehemence of feeling or expression. It is said that school violence needs to be a concern at all. The fact is violence of one sort or another is part of many schools today. Fortunately, this usually involves a small group of people fighting amongst themselves.
School violence is becoming more and more prevalent in today’s society. People are talking about what needs to be done to help prevent this from becoming an everyday occurrence, looking to metal detectors for schools, profiling of who would be the most likely to commit such crimes, and changing.
What can you do?
School violence occurs more than many people are willing to admit. Students and staff see it happens and don’t do anything about it. If you see it happening, don’t turn your back. Do something about it. Tell someone you trust to end it. You will be helping to save someone from torment and bullying and make the school a better place to be.
At this moment you can tell it to you r parents and teachers. They can help you escape this unhappy thing. If your parents don’t beside you, you can tell it to policemen. You have a right to be safe and policemen can do things to get the school violence stopped.
If schools are unable to solve the problem of violence on their own then they can take external help as well. This external help can be taken from the counselors or psychiatrists. These people are having the specialization on child’s psychology and they understand the behavior of the child very well. Schools can adopt the techniques of student profiling that can tell you about the student’s violent acts in advance. Thus with the help of this technique, schools can prevent the occurrence of school violence.
Why there is school violence?
I think there are three reasons. Firstly, the school doesn’t control the students well. The teachers don’t know the student’s condition well. The schools have duty to educate the students, not only teach them get high score, but also include the spiritual education. Secondly, the stronger students look down upon the weaker students. They want to show their power, so they hit the other students. They are conceited and selfish, what is also the reason cause school violence. Otherwise, they think it’s cool to bully the others. Thirdly, they don’t have money. It’s certain to hit the students who don’t take out the money.
In the 21st century, people focus more on material than the spiritual. There’s no doubt that it’s an abnormal phenomenon. The adults just want to earn money as much as possible. They each their children that money is important and it lead their children to a chasing material life. But they don’t know realize what their children need indeed is the spiritual education. And eventually, it resulted that part of teenagers in our century don’t know how to get with others, they can’t adjust to their small society—school. Then, school violence appeared.
Schools are accountable for providing all three kinds of learning to the students- academic, social and emotional. It is important to note that children will learn what they will see. If they get a good environment then they are sure to groom their personality in the right manner. However as against this, if they will see a bad environment then they will learn the same which is indeed a very bad thing. Prevention or reduction of violence is the dire need of today’s society. Violence cannot be controlled by killing or going for methods like mass extermination. It can only be controlled by giving proper education that includes civic sense and by giving proper guidance, love, care, affection and support to the violent students. So it is the duty of the media, schools and parents to reduce
violent acts in schools and by this way school violence can be prevented in all schools in all areas.
Violence is defined as any physical or verbal attack on a person while on school grounds or on school property. Nowadays, to hear about an act of violence in a school setting is tragic, but common. Whether the violence has to do with knives, or just a simple fight, school violence is getting a little out of hand.  In the last year there have been several school massacres in our country, including the most tragic one happened in Yunnan University. These acts of violence are done by students who feel frustrated with their current situation in school; it’s usually done by the one you least suspect. Violence isn’t just the massacres, it is all the stuff done at school that no one seems to hear about, fights, name calling, gang activity, locker thefts, bullying and excluding people you think don’t belong. These little things can lead up to something big, something no one is expecting, for example a killing. Most are unpopular and are considered an outsider in their school. These acts of violence are a way for these to escape their feelings of rejection for a moment. One student can destroy a whole school with his rude acting, but something must have made this person feel hatred toward school, and people. The little things no one thinks will do harm are things that make a person feel hatred towards something or someone.
To investigate the major factors of school violence, the effects of school violence, and the methods of prevention are very important, no only for the educators but also people involved. Theorists argue that violence in the media’s influence can lead to an increase in violent behavior in youth. They said youth imitate what they see no matter bad or good. Another fact is that if a child grows up in an unhealthy household(such as parents getting divorced or parents not always being at home) that he or she will be more likely to grow up to be a violent person. The third fact that is linked to violent behavior is if the child grows up in a tough neighborhood. The fourth fact is that our high competed education systems also have something to do with violent behavior. Not just one single factor can be linked to youth violence. It is the combinations of these variables that make our youth have the tendency to be more violent.
To be aware of incidents in the past is to be aware of possible incidents in the future. After the tragedy happened in YunNan University , many universities have pay more attention to the mental heath of students. Many school sent up psychology tutorship center for student to confide their mental problems. All of there we have done is good. But it still be a long way for use to run.
In order to prevent and control the act of school violence, generally speaking, we must strengthen the education on teachers and students, pay more attention to the influence of problem families on teenagers, and create a healthy culture atmosphere inside and around the school. Anyway, school violence is not the responsibility of certain person, it is the problem of the whole society.
