Nicola is self-destructive, compelled not just to cancel love but to murder it.” The Information (1995) is a novel about vice, envy. Selinastreet and Martina Twain are two women characters in the Novel. John self’s behavior with these women is very rude. Novel money is all about John’s weaknesses and his relation with other characters. He is consumer extra ordinate. Alcohol, tobacco, pills, pornography, and Junk Food is his world. He makes and deals with movie world business and pornography industry. He is victim of financial problems and sexual crisis. Susan Fury of Martin Amis” comments that Martin Amis Satires modern sexuality and Amis comments” I consider Money my Feminist book. The hero does start to see the light, and being kind of person he is, he fails to move into the light .

In this reference Laura Doan in “Sexy Greed is the Late Eighties” power systems in Amis’s Money and Churchil’s Serious Money remarks that “Amis’s text does not transgress the established boundaries of the patriarchal order to break away from the dominant power systems”. Novel opens in the summer of 1981, John self arrives at New York to direct his first film invited by producer Fielding Gooney. John self produces controversial TV ads for Smoking, drinking, Junk food and nude magazines’. John wishes to direct his first film based on his own life, this film is names as “Good Money” afterwards changed as “Bad Money” Amis write “Fielding, my moneyman my here. I’m the reason he’s here too. We’re going to make lots of money together. Making lots of money- it’s not that hard, you know. It’s overestimated. Making lots of money is a breeze. You watch.” John self is thirty five years old with tinnitus disease, making various tricks to make money. His greed for money and its effects on him and society in which he lives are clearly explained by writer.

Patriarchy and capitalism has close relation in this novel. Who owes money dominate to who don’t owes money. In this respect women are exploited very much
John comments ‘Alec Llewellyn owes me money Selina Street owes me money. Barry self owes me money.’ Martin Amis presents twentieth century’s characteristics of extremes, consumerism and media pervaded culture in the novel money. Patriarchal views of main character and other can be seen in money scenes.Women are given less importance in this reference Joanna Stolarek in the article Gender relations in Martin Amiss selected novels comments that there is no escaping the fact, however that regardless of Amis’s complex, profound examination of gender roles his female protagonists are indubitably by far less conspicuous and recognisable than their male counterpart and therefore they could be frequently considered as types, predominantly negative ones, rather than the genuine characters . In this respect Martin Amis says in interview by Carl Bellante and John Bellant, Unlike Father, Like son ‘I’ m writing comedies.

Vamps and ballbreaker and golddigger’s are the sort of women who belong in comedy. It clears that women characters are presented only for comedy purpose and they have no other value than it. Novel opens in the summer of 1981, John self arrives at New York to direct his first film invited by producer Fielding Gooney. John self produces controversial TV ads for Smoking, drinking, Junk food and nude magazines’. John wishes to direct his first film based on his own life, this film is names as “Good Money” afterwards changed as Bad Money” Amis writes ‘Fielding, my moneyman my here. I’m the reason he, is here too. We’re going to make lots of money together. Making lots of money- its not that hard, you know. It’s overestimated. Making lots of money is a breeze. You watch’. John self is thirty five years old with tinnitus disease, making various tricks to make money. His greed for money and its effects on him and society in which he lives are clearly explained by writer. Patriarchy and capitalism has close relation in this novel. Who owes money dominate to who don’t owes money. In this respect women are exploited very much. John comments ‘Alec Llewellyn owes me money Selina Street owes me money. Barry self owes me money.’

There are two main women characters in the novel. Selina Street and Martina Twain, Butch, an actress, Cadutta and Vron are other women characters in the novel. The description of women’s physical traits and words used for it are related to capitalist culture. John describes about Butch, an actress in his film that “She looks like a million dollar sensitive young woman. I think she’s got a great future in our industry”. Money and pornography exploit women in various incidents. Pornography is considered as a industry or business where women are considered objects. Very humiliated and patriarchal words are used in the novel to explain sex and pornography in the novel, though Amis intention is to make satire on twentieth century consumerisms he uses women to show it. He explains about pornography it “True, the chicks on the ramp provided some variety. None of them wore any pants. At first I assumed that they got paid a lot more for this. Looking at the state of the place, though, and the state of the chicks. I ended up deciding that they got paid a lot less.”

The agents decide their price. The girls are not doing all this business for their happiness ‘She does all this not for passion, not for comfort, not less for love, the provethat she does all this for money. In this relation to pornography and prostitution P.Monzini in Sex Traffic: Prostitution, crime and Exploitation points out that: The human flesh markets have turned women into merely “interchangeable goods”. In major incidents women are victims to patriarchal behaviour of male characters and to some extent in distortion of their language and thinking. But at one incident self is himself victim of sexism by group of homo-homosexuals outside fielding’s rehearsal studio” But as I walked across the jarred and cratered road and sensed the usual quickening of irony and aggression. I also sensed something further-I sensed that my weight, my mass, my meat was being appraised, registered, scaled, not with lust, no, but with a carnal speculation I had never felt, before. Christ, is this how you chicks feel?. Martinez II in the Satirical Theatre of Female Body comments that for Amis, John Self as an embodiment of the capitalistic systems of England and America in the late twentieth century, and uses this status to further expose Self’s internal emptiness’.

John self’s entire life is determined by his relations to the women in the novel. He separate women as whore and non-whore.He values women according to money or sex. When he meets a women he thinks first ‘will I fuck it?’ Martin Amis called pornography as industry in the novel money and gives details about this business. His female characters are victims of all kind of violence by men.Kaye Mitchell explains in “self abuse; Thepornography of postmodern life in money that Pornography also serves to infect and inflect the very style of the novel. It could be held to demon state a pornographic aesthetics of the garish, grotesque and excessive (an animistic investment in repetition) in a way that undercuts the eminent attempts at satire. Simon John Cook in the Obscenification of everyday life Representing pornography in Anglo American fiction since 1970remarks that: ‘Selina pleases her man in contingent recompense for funded shopping and financial security. She offerers an appearance which is a fifty fifty compromise between the primly juvenile and the grossly provocative frank promise of brotherly know how and top dollar underwear She is synonyms with pornography, which he need when she not around selling, satirical caricature and wish fulfilment construct, performs a version of herself for the delectation of self and others John Self like main character of Rachel Papers have many girlfriends but he shows his possessiveness in his conversation with Selina Street.

‘At least, when she’s with me, she’s not with anyone else. Apparently I denounced and banished her that night, the night before I left for New York. I can’t remember. Apparently I called her a whore cursed her for a gold-digging fuckbag and kicked her out  It shows that he not only calls Selina whore but also wants to kick her out. He observes Selina and says that everyone makes passes at you, Selina.Waiters in restaurants makes passes at you. Men in the street make passes at you. All my friends make passes at you too’  ‘Is she an infidel? Does she go to bed with men for money? No, not my Selina. She simply makes blue films while I’m out of town, for private screening in this old head of mine’. Lorne Guyland, an actor in John’s film wanted sex scenes in the film butCaduttaMassi, actress doesn’t admit that proposal. John asking Lorne about not sex scenes with Cadutta but Lorne explains angrily. “What do you mean she won’t take her clothsoff! She’s only a fucking tv actress! I’ll rip her fucking cloths off ”. The twentieth century’s sexual debasement can be seen everywhere in the novel.

At the same time patriarchal words and concepts about sex are so much distorted as it clears from these dialogues in the novel as: ‘It has to be made clear that the girl gives herself to the old man out of pity and also because of her artistic sense. It is an act of artistic generosity, of giving. We could have her say something like “You are old. I am young. You are worn and coarse. I am clear and fresh as the morning. I give myself to you, old man. A girl of youth. It must be tiring knowledge the realization that half the members of the planet one on one can do what they hell like with you’ You just take women and use them. Then you toss them aside like a salad. ‘Selina has frequently refreshed me with tales of insult and isolation from her childhood and teenage years’. The protagonist of the novel Money, John self represents a modern century’s man who is the victim of money, pornography and sexual desires. John thinks in the materialistic life that money is the only his passion. Money has destructive power for him. Subtitle of the novel is Suicide Note as he uses money for bad habits. ‘I have money but I can’t control it

The money I think is uncontrollable’ John self’s all relations and actions are dominated by power of money to humiliate women character in the novel. In this reference James Diedrick in Understanding Martin Amis points out that ‘Life dimension of the protagonist expands the sense of decadence into macroscopic level; while the author constantly humiliates self, he also satirizes the social system and the consumerism of the western society that made Self what he is.’  John Self and Selina Street’s relation are only as transitional system. Selina asks John she wants to open her joint account with him which thing has touched very much to John. He thinks it is not necessary to her have a joint account. Selina thinks that men dominate through money and John replies that so I never give her any.

It means that Amis here using double voice technique. He explains how Selina behave when he decides to open joint account in these words: The day before last, however, I decided to open a joint bank account. I filled out the forms, coldly supervised by the watchful, sharp-shouldered Selina. That morning she went to bed in black stockings, tasseled garter belt, satin thong, silk bolero, muslin gloves, belly necklace and gold choker. I made a real pig of myself, I have to admit. An hour and a half later she turned to me, with one leg still hooked over the headboard, and said, ‘Do it, anywhere, anything.’ Things had unquestionably improved, what with all this new dignity and self-respect about the place”. It clears from above incident that John is very patriarchal and wants to keep his girlfriend in his possessions.

He thinks that she does not carry any identity or self-respect. She must give all her things to him without selfishness. Virginia Woolf in her famous book A Room of One’s own comments about self respect and self identity in appropriate words. ‘withoutself confidence we are babes in the cradle. And how we generate this imponderable quality, which is yet so invaluable, most quickly?by thinking that other people are inferior to oneself
Hence, the enormous importance to a patriarch who has to conquer, who has to rule, of feeling that great numbers of people, half the human race indeed, are by nature inferior to himself .’ London Fields is the name of a railway station on the Cambridge line but all the novel is set in the Notting Hill. London Fields a novel deals with the central character Nicola, a young woman sharing with novelist her knowledge about she will be murdered on her thirty fifth birthday on November 6, 1999. She has planned the death of her love and
