Self Assessment

I would like to apply for Masters in Strategic Leadership in your university as I am very interested in subjects such as management and leadership. I have been interested in taking up tasks since my school days. As a student in my school and college I have taken tasks which required team work and I have successfully been able to manage and guide such teams. I have always enjoyed being a team leader, taking up and completing the responsibilities given to me.

I specifically chose Strategic Leadership as the subject for my Masters as the purpose for growth, context for the success of the organization, the direction and vision are provided by strategic leadership. “Outside-the-box” thinking is also initiated by it to create future growth. Strategic management and leadership is not only about micromanaging business strategies but it also helps businesses in devising suitable strategies and in creating value.

In short strategic management interests me as it provides the vision, direction and creates the background for the growth of an organization by providing a layout that would help an organization use its full potential; it is the responsibility of a strategic leader to manage large organizations. It is he who establishes the organizational structure, communicates strategic vision, and allocates recourses. One thing that interests me the most is that the strategic leaders work on highly complex problems that are affected by organizations and events apart from their own. Strategic leaders usually work in an uncertain environment.

According to me I have the capabilities to match these requirements. Coming to my strengths, I adopt to changes in environment quickly and easily, I can gel around with people easily and I am patient, that helps me understand people and their problems easily, which according to me is quite important for a leader or manager to manage a team or an organization. I enjoy working on complex problems and tasks which require effort interest me the most, which according to me is one of my major strengths, I love putting in effort and laying down strategies to resolve such problems.

I am also a good speaker when comes to talking and convincing people. I enjoy working with people in teams and groups, which according to me is the base for a successful leader. Managing a team well and keeping the people working under you happy and content is one of the most important and primary tasks of a leader, and I am proud to say that I possess this quality. As part of becoming successful in whatever I do, I have always concentrated on developing my strengths and getting over my weaknesses.

A few of my weaknesses can also be counted as my strengths. For example, once I am given a task I do not rest until the task is complete, even if I have a team working under me I drive them to complete the task in a perfect manner, this sometimes kills the patience of my team leading them to break down. I also get very anxious sometimes if the given tasks are not completed on time, which leads to sometime loosing temper which may hurt my team members, apart from these weaknesses I do not think I have come across any other weaknesses that I possess.

As mentioned above since my childhood I have had many opportunities to lead teams and have been successful in the tasks given to me. According to feedback received from the teams I have worked with, majority of the people have been happy to work with me and have been very impressed with my style of leading and guiding people. I would like to apply for this course to further polish and grow my leadership skills to help me lead a successful organization, and help me create a prosperous and bright future.
