Sacred and Ancestral Ground

When I started reading this article I realized that there are certain places that even I would like to visit and when I processed with this beautiful and mind blowing experience the author has illustrated I was startled to feel that how one can draw such a striking picture of an attractive place that made me felt as if I was actually present over there in their journey into the heart of North America. This article clearly presents a portrait of the survival and preservation of the environment and cultural resources left by the local ancestors Kiowa.

This reminded me of the trip I took some time back of the mountain areas, similarly the plain below had been comfortable, even warm at midday, the mountain air was cold, and much of the ground was covered with snow depicting a lush green and white combination, and illustrating the beauty of nature. I had for the first time read about Medicine Wheel and it literally startled me that a cultural heritage preserved at 8000 feet high on the mountain with 80 feet in diameter, what a sight it would have been to see it being on the peak of the mountain.

There was so much calm at that place and silence that one can hear the echo of the voice till distances. The sun was warm and bright, and there was a profound silence. The Black Hills is another place of geological importance because according to Momaday “foundation rocks of these mountains are older than much of the sedimentary layer of which the American is primarily composed. An analysis of this foundation, made in 1975, indicates an age of between two billion and three billion years.” (Momaday, p.1)
