Order NowThis is about the debate between nature vs. nurture. Meaning, whether or not nurture is the reason we are the way we are, or if it is because of of nature. This is a very well known debate-Throughout History, philosophers and scientist have debated the role of biology in determining who we are, as people. This discussion is often called the “Nature vs. Nurture Debate”.Explain both sides of this debate. According to this debate, which do you think is more important, nature or nurture? Provide evidence to support you answer.
Did your natural parents or your legal guardians ever physically or mentally abuse you as a child? Consequently, were you extraordinarily loved and showered with confidence, encouragement and attention by your creators and loved ones? Or rather, do your childhood memories lie somewhere in the middle of these two scenarios? If so, which side to they lean closer to? You might be wondering why I would ponder such a thing about an individual such as yourself, but there is actually logic to what I am questioning. With an open mind and a listening ear, you too will see the logic in what I am about to say. For starters, some people think that you are unchangeably born into the person you are going to be when you are a full-fledged adult. Meaning, they feel that nothing or no one can change the outcome of the person you will be and how you will interact with people and world around you. That statement, also known as the “Nature Debate”, is undoubtedly false to me. I believe in something of a different nature; the “Nurture Debate”. The individual will decide or turn into the person they will become as a intelligent adult, with deep influences by the way they were brought up, their surroundings and the moral values (or lack of values) they were (or weren’t) taught by their parents, guardians and/or mentors. In other words, Nurture plays a crucial role in the development of human beings in this uncertain world.
The first day a baby is born is so beautiful. He or she is so innocent, unbeknownst what waits for him or her in a vast and strange world, away from the comfort of the warm fluid in its mother’s womb. From that day forth, it will be up to his makers to ensure that he lives a happy, healthy, and safe life or to doom him for a life of misery, sadness and pain. Some kids will get the better of one world, and the worst of another all in one. Whatever mix they get of the environment the have been brought up in will make them be the person they are. This could mean they will be abusive because they were abused or reversibly loving because they were loved. This could also want to make them be different as an adult and raise their kid opposite of that they were raised. As a result, the way a person is nurtured will still determine who they are and how they act and respond to certain obstacles in life. (i.e. they would want to raise their children with love unlike the hatred they were brought up with)
For instance, my very own father was brought up in an abusive and neglected household with an alcoholic for a mother. They were beyond poor and his mother was full of heartless emotions. He has no good childhood memories as a result. In effect, it is impossible for him to show his love for and affection to us because he was never showed or demonstrated love as a child. Even still, he does everything possible to ensure that we are brought up with love and the utmost nurture children can and are willing to receive; the complete opposite of him. The way my father was nurtured by his negligent mother has sorrowfully made him into the gloomy person he is today, not from that which he was just born into. Subsequently, I will forever be the most nurturing and loving mother because of the undying love I have received from my adoring parents in so many ways throughout my whole life.
On a second note, not only does the way you are nurtured by your parents determine the person you will be, but the surroundings you live in will do so as well. If you are brought up in a wealthy home and raised in a prestigious area, you will prosper or fail in different ways than a person who has been born in a rural poor neighborhood. Depending on your surroundings you can be doomed for failure or promised for success in either two of the atmospheres. It depends on the exact description and location of your surroundings and of course, the people who live around you. Your surroundings to not hold as much “weight” as the people who will influence you, but they still matter. They will always matter. However, one thing I believe will never be a factor in determining the outcome of a human being is anything having to do with biology. I can speak from firsthand knowledge. For example: my mother is the most forgiving person you could ever meet and you honestly would not want to know how long I could hold a grudge for. Likewise, by brothers couldn’t be more different than my Dad. Biology just isn’t factor. Move over Nature!
Hopefully I have convinced you that Nature is not a valid possibility of human behavior. Hopefully I have convinced you that Nurture is the only logical reason for human behavior. It is the only possible explanation.
