Tough times don’t last, tough people do; Ask the soldier in the line of fire, the smoke in his eyes, the dirt on his face yet he holds his ground and fends of the attack, a hero for his people, a gladiator of valor. Tough times don’t last tough people do. Ask the doctor spending his hours in the operation theater, the patient on the operating table and his beating heart making the difference between life and death. And last but never the least the man responsible for the lives of hundreds, the captain putting leagues in between his plane and the ground but the engines burst so he dives to safety but the slightest error could end in bursting flame and the death of dozens of unfortunates. But he breathes and turns until the plane parallels the run way and touches down as swiftly as man can. The flight undamaged, the passengers safe, the pilot the savior. Tough times don’t last tough people do.

The black gentleman who fought and clawed for the rights of his people in South Africa, the oppressors tortured and imprisoned him, but never could they break his will. Every time he was pushed into abysmal darkness but every time, he emerged more powerful, more committed and above all more successful. He kept struggling despite the criticism from his adversaries. He kept struggling despite all the hardships. He kept struggling despite his imprisonment for 27 years. He kept struggling to achieve what he dreamt. He kept struggling to see the black equal to white in rights. Nelson Mandela, the man world will never forget. The man, who showed and proved us all that hardships never last but the ones who fight are the ones who last forever. But the pages of history are studded with dimes such as him. So let me flip to another page. The man, to whom subcontinent owes its freedom, who freed it from the shackles of British imperialism.

Who had to face the challenges and hardships like none other. Who had to face the strong opposition by the people of his own religion. Who had to face the super power of the world, but he never stepped back. With every move by his adversaries to debilitate him. He grew stronger, more powerful and more committed on his purpose. He kept struggling despite the conspiracies of the congress and the British. He kept struggling despite the strong opposition by some of the muslim ulemas. He kept struggling to achieve what he longed for. Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the man unforgettable. The man who showed and proved us all that tough times don’t last but the ones who fight adversities are the ones who last forever.

One thing man must understand is that he controls time. Time does not control him. Those who strive hard turn the flow of rivers, they divert storms, they change the pattern of winds, they crush rocks with their passion and courage. They say “Don’t wait to strike till the iron is hot but make it hot by striking. I would conclude my speech with the quotation of earnest Hemmingway. He said “Man can be destroyed but can never be defeated.” I rest my case.
