High attitude means high altitude. This is in fact the basic principle behind attitude indicators in airplanes that measure the position of aircraft with respect to the horizon. While the plane is climbing up, it has a nose up attitude and while it is descending, it has a nose down attitude. Pilots keep a close watch at this attitude indicator because they know it helps to determine the altitude of the plane. If they wish to change the altitude, they must adjust the attitude. With this very example I am here to articulate my views on the topic ‘your attitude and not your aptitude decide your altitude.’ Attitude is a little thing that can make a big difference – not only in our life but also in the lives of others around us. Our attitude, whether in sports, studies, business, relationships or in life, will end up discovering the heights or altitude we achieve in our life. Attitude on the whole sums up to 100% by associating alphabets with numbers.

Our attitude developed through imitation right from the birth, or assimilated by friends, family, role models, environments, etc. will determine our victory and magnitudes in life. Attitudes become noticeable through our behavior or comportment. Or to say simply – attitude is the way of life. Attitude determining altitude is not a new concept. The 16th century Roman Emperor simply puts it: Our life is what our thoughts make it. The success we find each day is largely influenced by the type of attitude we have towards life. We can choose to go through life with a nose down attitude and see nothing but the ground or go through life with a nose up attitude and continually see the stars. ‘Keep your face to the sunshine and you will never see the shadows ‘is perfectly quoted by Helen Keller in this respect. But what about our aptitude, isn’t that important? The answer is yes aptitude is important.

It is essential for a person to have skill, training and experience but I believe in putting attitude over aptitude. There are 2 types of people in this world, one who take the glass half empty and the other who take the glass half full. And those who take the glass half empty are simply setting themselves up for failure no matter what targets they set for themselves in life. Only people with PMA i.e. Positive Mental Attitude can be at the top and successful in their lives. As a final point, I would like to say that a winning attitude is not about putting a fictitious face on unsatisfactory results nor is a matter of changing a difficult reality by approaching it solely with a sunny mood.
