School Governors, Senior Management Team, and Other Statutory Roles

The school governors must appoint a chair and a vice-chair and may wish to make a number of other specific appointments to lead on to certain aspects of the school. There are many different types of governors such as parent governors, staff governors, community governors, authority governors, foundation governors, partnership governors and sponsor governors which all play a part in making schools successful. The school governor’s responsibilities are to set targets for pupil achievements, managing the school finances, reviewing staff performance and pay, appointing staff and making sure the curriculum is balanced and broadly based. Senior management team The senior management team work with the headmaster, which share the responsibilities for all aspects of school leadership and management. The senior management are responsible for planning and directing the work of groups of individuals, monitoring their work and taking corrective action when necessary. Teachers Teacher’s role is to plan, prepare and deliver lessons to meet the needs of all pupils by setting and marking work and recording pupil development as necessary.

Teachers responsibilities are to help pupils improve education for their future, to identify emotional, intellectual, physical issues which may stop or reflect on pupils learning to their full potential, present a caring but professional approach to pupils, to show respect pupils and teach them to respect others. Also to prepare lessons and setting goals for the pupils to meet. Support staff There are a number of roles of support staff which are: * Learning support staff who work with teachers in the classroom, helping pupils progress with their learning. * Administrative staff provides essential back up services for the whole school. * Welfare and pupil support are responsible for the welfare of pupils outside of classroom. * Specialist and technical staff who are on hand in schools to provide knowledge and resources that support learning and teaching.

Site staff ensures that the environment is clean, safe and tidy and make sure meals are available at lunch time. The support staff responsibilities are to support the school so it’s running smoothly by helping pupils progress their learning and welfare, making sure the school is clean safe and tidy, have knowledge and resources to support learning and teaching. Head teacher The head teacher is the head administrator of the school who works with the school governors and Senior management team to make sure the school is running smoothly and taking on any problems and solves them. The head teacher is responsible for the whole school from staff, pupil to finances.

2.2 Describe the roles of external professionals who may work with a school (e.g. educational psychologist)

Roles Responsibilities
Educational psychologist Educational psychologists bring a specialised perspective to children. They are concerned with children’s learning and development and bring a positive change for children by their skills in a range of psychological and educational assessment techniques and in different methods of helping children who experience difficulties in learning, behaviour and social adjustment. Educational psychologist responsibilities are to help children who have difficulties in a learning environment by helping them learn in different ways if needed. Educational welfare service Educational welfare service works with schools, pupils and families to resolve any issues also the Educational welfare service undertakes proceedings on behalf of local authority in respect of parents who do not ensure their children’s regular attendance to school or enrol them at school. The Educational welfare service responsibilities are to make relevant assessments and action plans in partnership to pupils, parents, school staff and other relevant parties, concerning attendance at school or alternative educational provision also to provide legal action when needed.

Specialist teacher Specialist teacher supports the whole school in meeting children’s needs and ensuring the staff are trained and supported. The Specialist teacher responsibilities are * Devising an individualised programme of support/intervention to meet the pupil’s needs. * Identifying suitable resources and materials including ict. * Supporting the whole school in meeting the needs of the pupils. Speech and language therapist Speech and language therapist works with children who have difficulties with understanding, expressing themselves and using communication to socialise appropriately but also work with children who have difficulties with eating, drinking and swallowing. Speech and language therapist responsibilities are to make sure children with difficulties learn to communicate with others easier. Speech and language therapist works in a close partnership with the child, their family and any other healthcare professionals to make sure the child has as much help needed to reach the child’s full communications potential.
