Order NowI live in a modern floor to ceiling glass house on the north east corner of the street looking out to the desert. There are no street lights and the closest neighbors are a few hundred yards away. At night the moonlight casts an eerie shadow over the desert foliage, bending the plants into menacing grotesque shapes. Needless to say at times the whole atmosphere of my home gives me a deep sense of vulnerability. One particular morning I happened to be running late for work and I heard a car pull up to my driveway. I looked out my window and saw a grey colored SUV parked out front. A heavy set dark haired man with a beard wearing a red shirt sat in the driver’s seat. I stood there for a moment wondering who he was and why he was at my house. A minute later a second man walked directly past my bedroom window. He must have been looking around the perimeter of my house. At that point I became very suspicious and decided to call 911. I described both men to the emergency dispatch operator.
Her voice was very calm and collected, she told me to make sure I was not seen and that the police were on their way. Anxiety and fear built up inside me as I waited anxiously for the sheriff department to arrive. I heard a loud banging against glass and my dogs were barking nonstop, I was frozen. Terrifying thoughts overwhelmed me; I couldn’t believe that someone was attempting to break in to my house. Tears came rushing down my face and I began having a panic attack, I couldn’t breathe. Just then I heard loud confrontational voices and knew the police had arrived. I was so relieved and couldn’t thank the officer enough. They arrested the men and proceeded to take my statement while reassuring me that everything was alright. That day was one of the scariest moments of my life and has made me more self-aware. I now take extra precautions whenever I am by myself, and have been educated in self-defense. I don’t allow myself to fear my own home with confidence that if ever in a similar situation I can count on my local sheriff department
