Same-Sex Marriage

Love is a feeling that is universal, which is indeed felt by all living things in this world. Love is love, whether it is felt by opposite sex or same sex couples. One of the many problems in todays’ society is the legalization of gay marriage. Homosexual marriage is an issue of equality and human rights of those of every gender, race, religion and sexual orientation. “Same-sex marriage is defined as a union between two people who are of the same gender or biological sex” (History and Debate on Gay Marriage). Now the traditional view of marriage is being changed by the homosexual couples inquiring the same rights to love, adore, and admire their spouse as heterosexual couples do. “Seventeen states and the District of Columbia currently have laws that allow same-sex marriages” (Same Sex Marriage Laws). Many are pushing for a law that is protected by the Constitution. If an x-ray was conducted of two individuals who love each other, one would not be able to tell the race, gender, or sexual orientation of them. However, love is love no matter if it is felt between a man and woman, man and man, or woman and woman.

Therefore, gay marriage should be legalized world-wide. As stated before same sex marriage is a union between two people who are of the same gender or biological sex. Individuals have various different opinions on this topic matter. Back in the beginning of the 16th century “Britain began to categorize homosexual behavior a crime rather than an immoral” (Gay Rights Movement). Henry VII, which was the king during that time period, had all individuals who had homosexual relations be put to death. Today homosexuality is a popular topic between many individuals. Individuals have yet to receive answers today on why or why not same sex marriage should be legalized world-wide. As read many people have their opinions on gay marriage. There are many controversy with gay marriage. Some individuals may be against gay marriage for copious amounts of reasons. People may be against “because they believe that gay marriage may lead to more children being raised in same-sex households which are not an optimum environment because children need both mother and father” (Procon.org).

It may be out of the norm to have same-sex parents, however, it has a positive side to it. Although people in homosexual relations cannot physically produce, it has a positive. More kids will have an opportunity to be adopted and be placed in a home. The adoption rate will increasingly go up because of homosexual couples. It has been said “girls who are raised being apart from their father will cause early sexual activity and children without a mother are deprived of the emotional security” (Procon.org). It may be hard for the world to accept the term “homosexual relationships”, but it is on the uprising. As of today, about 52% of the individual apart of the world have had homosexual relations, or “in” homosexual relationships.

People cannot control who one loves or in fact who they might love. Gay Marriage should be legalized because it is an individual’s personal life, adoption rates will increase rapidly, and many more individuals will be happier with life. Why force homosexual couples to marry an opposite sex individual. That will just cause problems, and divorce rates will increase, the rates are already high. Therefore, gay marriage should be legalized. Therefore, it is needs for individuals to put aside religiousness and look at this debate from a legal standpoint. Same sex couples that love each other should be allowed to publicize, celebrate their commitment, and receive the same benefits of marriage as opposite sex couples. All lovers should be granted the final gift of marriage, because marriage is an inalienable right of humans.
