Bullying is not something easy to deal with. The victim may not know what to do, to tell someone or to just let the bullying happen. The bystanders may not know what to do either, to tell an adult or to stop it themselves. The bully may not know what exactly to do either, to keep on bullying or to stop because of common sense. Who can really help the victim is the victim itself. Why? If the victim wants to stop it, they could ask an adult’s help. But if the bullying gets too far, then the victim would need serious help. But where do you get the help when you need it?

Bullying is in different forms, cyber bullying and social bullying. Cyber bullying consists of bullying online that can be on websites such as myspace, facebook, twitter, etc. Social bullying is divided into two parts, emotional and physical bullying. Emotional is when the bully just says insults or harmful words to you that can get to your head and heart, while physical bullying is when the bully can touch you in a sexual way, or beat you. Cyber bullying and social bullying can both lead to the victim to many directions, but which direction is the right one to go to? One Direction!

If a child is a victim of social bullying, you should contact a teacher, school counselor, school counselor, school superintendent, and State Department of Education. If someone is acting differently than normal, like being sad, struggling to complete tasks or not being able to take care of themselves, find a local counselor or a mental health service. If someone is hopeless, helpless, thinking of suicide contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline online or call 1-800-273-8825. If the school is not addressing harassment based on race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or religion contact the school superintendent, State Department of Education, U.S. Department of Education, and U.S. Department of Justice. If you think telling someone about a victim being bullied is snitching, you’re wrong. It could be in fact saving someone’s life from being hurt in any kind of way.

Bystanders actually play a big role when someone is being bullied. If they’re watching they could immediately get help from a nearby adult, but if there is no adult nearby, you can intervene with a group of kids and try to stop it, and possibly get the bully to stop what they’re doing. Or you can just watch and when the bully stops, you can walk over to the victim and see how they’re doing. Another one is you can try to get the victim away by saying an excuse. Also don’t make an audience of laughing, pointing, or joining to bully the victim. If you don’t make an audience the bully could stop also.

Try to set a good example on younger children too. Tell them that bullying is wrong, and should never be done, and when they see bullying, try to tell an adult or stop it without violence. To stop bullying, it’s better to get everyone together to confront the bully and stop it. When you talk to the victim, tell them it’s not their fault for being bullied, and give advice on what they should do. Make them feel safe and take them to see any trusted adult. Never tell them to ignore the bullying, never tell them to physically fight back; neither let the parents call the bully’s parents because it could make matters worse.

When talking to the bully, it could be difficult. Make sure that the bully knows what the problem behavior is. They must know that what they’re doing is wrong. Tell the bully that bullying should not be taken lightly and should give respect to everyone. Lastly try to understand the bully’s point of view and why they’re bullying. Remember that the bully and the victim are both people and have reasons and feelings.

Bullying can also threaten students’ physical and emotional safety at school and can negatively impact their ability to learn. There are a lot of things schools can do to prevent bullying. You can make assessments in your school to determine how often bullying occurs, where it happens, how students and adults intervene, and whether your prevention efforts are working. It is also important for everyone in the community to work together to send a message against bullying. We can also build bullying prevention material into the curriculum and school activities.

The most important thing here though is help is everywhere when you need it. No matter how lost you are if you are being bullied. Most people would help you right at the moment if they heard someone was being bullied and they needed help. Most victims don’t see that, because they’re afraid of getting help. But if any needed assistance, talk to anyone. No one is alone if they ask for help. Just because in schools they tell us over and over again that bullying is wrong and what we should do when bullying happens, they’re doing the right thing because what if one day it happens? Then all of us know exactly what do to in the future. If we get together, then surely bullying can be stopped, but there will always be some people out there in the world who still don’t understand the concept of bullying and will keep on doing it.

Many children and adults have been through bullying, and we think everyone can relate to how it feels like. It still doesn’t mean you can’t set a good example to others to not do bullying. So far most people are getting the idea that bullying should be prevented. There are many programs out in the U.S. to help stop bullying also. They’re trying to reach out to others who still don’t understand bullying and what to do with it. I don’t believe bullying can be completely prevented because there can always be hate and judgment left in our world, but we should always think of the best when it comes to bullying.
