A Reflection: An Inconvenient Truth

The movie “An Inconvenient Truth” is not only a mere documentation it is a strong and very passionate message to the people all over the world that our planet is not on a slow progress to imminent doom, but that already all over the world we are experiencing the beginning of the end. True that this might seem like ridiculous exaggeration to most people but that’s just foolish wistfulness on these individuals’ parts. If they do not already see the upheavals that are occurring in the world today then they need to open their eyes a little bit more.

Albert Arnold Gore is a visionary and a pioneer. He has taken the most monumental step today in informing the people of the crisis situation that is developing and worsening. Personally, I knew that global warming today has rapidly been becoming a major concern but what the movie showed truly shocked me. I guess it is no surprise that most people would think this was just a mere blow up to a minor issue but is it truly so? Aren’t there already so much evidence that supports Algore’s campaign against this issue? In the movie Algore talked most about was the dangerous increase in the carbon dioxide levels as a consequence. What this statistic showed was that with increasing carbon dioxide in our atmosphere more and more infrared light become trapped and thus causing an increase in temperature. Well, it would be good if, say, all the consequence to this would be a little warmer world but no, the resulting effect is not that easily dismissible. Fiercer cyclones, typhoons and storms are resulting from global warming.

Vast masses of lands are sinking under water. The ecosystems of the world are also being negatively affected by this issue. The scene in the movie where Algore showed a short clip of a polar bear swimming in a vast ocean where the North Pole, supposedly have already melted, was truly got to me. This bear was swimming almost desperately and when it came to this thin floating piece of ice it tried to climb on but the ice kept breaking and breaking and the polar bear couldn’t get on. It was heart wrenching to see. Scientists say that they are finding polar bears drowned in the North Pole right now. Why? Because of global warming!

Okay, before anyone jumps to conclusion that I’m just being all cushy over a cuddly polar bear just imagine this. In ten years or so it could be us swimming around an ocean and desperately trying to climb on a piece of floating ice. I am saying that global warming is serious! It is a truth, an inconvenient on like the movie says but a truth nonetheless. Without proper actions on our part the end of the world would not stay as a mere exaggeration but would definitely become a reality. Algore said that if say just a chunk of ice mass were to melt from either Antartica or the North Pole the Netherlands, Florida, Beijing and other parts of the world will be under water. Millions of people will lose their homes and their lives.

So what can we do prevent this disaster from further progressing? Algore stated that we can still reverse the damage of global warming in these following years. The fault as to why our planet has come to this condition lies with us humans, therefore it is only fair that we too shoulder the responsibility of putting things right. A little gesture like simply turning off lights when not in use goes a long way when we all do it. So come on people! Stop global warming because we don’t act now we’ll be like that polar bear… Swimming in a vast ocean with nowhere to cling to.
