Learning about the possible components that can be used to reduce the negative things will allow for more positive atmosphere. Physical Security
The component of the overall security objective that deserves the most attention in the church environment mentioned in the article would have to be physical security. Physical security which includes locks, lighting, alarms, closed-captioned television, policy and procedure manuals, and security officers would help to reduce the crimes being done within churches because it would tell the criminal to take extra precautions in the crimes they want to commit to where they may reconsider doing the crime at hand. If the criminal sees cameras or security guards in place they will not want to try their luck going into the church with a firearm or explosives because they could get caught easier. If things like collection money were locked up better so that it would be harder to steal then there is less chance of trying to take it. Personnel security
I believe that personnel security would be less pertinent for the church environment during a vulnerability assessment due to the simple fact that most personnel working in the church environment are there for one purpose and that is to spread the word of god to worshippers and not to cause harm to them in any way so there really is no cause for concern with those who work for the church. I think that until there are obvious sign of foul play of employees that this would be the least of concerns within the church walls. Countermeasures
Some countermeasures that could be put into place in churches to reduce or eliminate shootings, arson, and bombing would be to add security officers, for things that could happen such as the shooting at a Colorado church (brotherhood mutual, 2013), to the church lots at night to eliminate the possibility of fires being set after hours. I would add metal detectors, because it would prevent situations as in injuries that can be caused by intruders getting in and causing harm to innocent people because they want what was made in that days donation box or they feel that the lord has not provided for them the way they think he should(church security,2011), at all entrances and exits of the church to reduce the possibility of bringing weapons into the churches and to make sure anyone suspicious looking with bags or trench coats be checked thoroughly by the security guards so that bombs would be less likely to make it within the church walls. Malls
The components that would be more pertinent at a mall rather than a church would be personnel security and interdepartmental dependency. Personnel security would be more important in a mall atmosphere rather than a church atmosphere because I think that personnel are more likely to commit crime such as theft at a mall instead of the church because there are more things that would catch an employees eye to take without paying for in a retail shop. Interdepartmental dependency would work in a mall atmosphere rather than a church atmosphere due to the simple fact that there are more department employees to take into consideration to helping out with protecting the environment. There are managers, assistant managers, cashiers, security guards, etc. where as in a church there are fewer departments to watch over the environment. Alternative Countermeasures
I do not think it would present alternative countermeasures to the ones I have already listed because I do not think that you could add any more solutions than the ones already implemented. In conclusion I feel that if the security objectives are added to the church atmosphere than there would be less crime happening within the church and less anxiety to those worshipping within these walls and they can concentrate on what they are actually going to church for such as praying and learning about the lord.
