Order NowOn-the-job training (OJT) is one of the best training methods because it is planned, organized, and conducted at the employee’s worksite. OJT will generally be the primary method used for broadening employee skills and increasing productivity. It is particularly appropriate for developing proficiency skills unique to an employee’s job – especially jobs that are relatively easy to learn and require locally-owned equipment and facilities. This is one method by which students is given a chance to apply the theories and computations that they have learned from the school. It also helps the students to acquire relevant knowledge and skills by performing in actual work setting. Colleges and universities require their students to undergo such training within a specific number of hours as part of the curriculum.
My classmates Chriszel Joy Magsambol, Jasmin Santillan, Kristina Tamio, Jan Elvin Villarubia and I were oriented by Maāam Etzie the Human Resource Assistant last February 21, 2011. She gave us the map of Bangko Mabuhay, the attendance report where we are going to log in and out, the date we are going to start the training, and the department where we were assigned. She explained to us the rules and regulation for the trainees such as to always follow the instructions of the superiors, the type of clothes to wear and the different facilities that can be used by the trainees.
March 23, 2011 – Wednesday, was my first day as a trainee. On the way to the bank at Tanza, Cavite, I was very nervous. Although I knew where I will be assigned and the name of my immediate superior, I still do not have the idea how she looks like, her attitude and the duties that I will do with her.
I arrived early and I saw my classmates at the back of the bank where the employees enter. We logged our time- in outside the Human Resource Department and went to our designated department. Chriszel was assigned at the Information Technology Department but was later transferred to the Microfinance Department; Jasmine was assigned at the Loans Department; Kristina was assigned at the Human Resource Department; Elvin was assigned at the Customer Service; and I was assigned at the Executive Office with Maāam Maranatha āMaraā Bunda, the executive secretary.

When I entered the Executive Office, I greeted Maāam Mara and Kuya Ichie, the janitor āGood Morningā and introduced myself. Aside from the orientation made by Maāam Etzie, Maāam Mara oriented me on what I am going to do and she toured me inside the Executive Office. She taught me how answer telephone calls, how to transfer telephone calls to other department, and how to give fax tone to the caller. Maāam Mara told me that the General Manager Sir Edwin Fojas was out of town on two (2) months vacation leave and the Compliance Officer Sir Basil Perea was on a seminar, but will be reporting at the bank after two (2) days. I learned on that first day that I have to be very patient especially in answering phone calls.
On the first week of my training, I always made mistake. I was confused and passed the caller on the wrong department; sometimes I asked Maāam Mara the local number on loans department even though I had the map on my side where I can refer from every time there is a phone call; and there was a time when I gave papers/documents to wrong department. I was so nervous because I knew that Maāam Mara was angry at that time. While waiting for the time out, I said āIām sorryā to Maāam Mara for what I have done earlier. I did not clearly hear the name that she told me and I did not asked it again before I left the office. I was not yet familiar with the names of the employees/officers in the bank and their local numbers. She forgave me and told me to look first at the map to be familiar with the local numbers. I decided then to memorize the local numbers and names of the employees of Bangko Mabuhay so I no longer made mistakes and no longer interrupt Maāam Maraās works.
As I promise to myself, I memorized all the names of employees and local numbers even their positions. The day passed by, I no longer use the map.
There was also a time when the executive office had another on-the-job training (OJT) student. Maāam Mara told me to teach Ezperanza āEzpieā Custodio, OMT student in PUP how to use the telephone and how to transfer phone calls. I also toured her inside executive office to be familiarized with the room and equipment.
Once when Maāam Mara was on leave, Sir Basil taught me to use the computer and printed some files for him. I typed the table of content of the documents. Sometimes other employees in the bank asked me to scan documents and send them to the other branch of Bangko Mabuhay like Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro, Naic, Cavite and Indang, Cavite.
When we were nothing to do in the office, Maāam Mara told me to go to another department so that I can learn from other employees. She will just call me if there will be some papers to be given to other department.
I was also assigned by Sir Basil to produce photocopies of some documents and type the name of the bank on top portion. Although I did not know yet how to operate the copying machine and the typewriter, I was able to accomplish the task through the help of my co- trainees.
I really enjoyed my on-the-job training at Bangko Mabuhay. I learned the basic office works, importance of productivity, the operation of common office equipment and facilities, the standard office rules and procedures and most of all the pleasant officers-employees relationships. All the good experiences, knowledge, skills and camaraderieās I acquired during my OJT at Bangko Mabuhay will be most cherished and I am ready to put into practice once I graduated and then employed.
Acknowledgment is wholeheartedly extended to all employees of Bangko Mabuhay but most of all to Maāam Maranatha āMaraā Bunda, the Executive Secretary, my mentor.

Narrative Report on the Job Training
Introduction:
Our school, General de Jesus College let us students to engage and experience the things happening in the actual world of Business through our On-The-Job-Training(Internship) in banks, auditing firms, and other business establishments related. We have given 250 hours to undergo and pursue this training that will help us to acquire knowledge and skills that will serve as a tool to face the challenges of life in the future. It will set our mind of what does a real world of accounting is all about. Others think that accounting matters only on numbers or quantitative information; however, it also matters or related in decision making and business operations. It also somewhat related to the development of our skills in communication, leadership and management. Thus, experience is vital to oneās improvement and preparing students to their career is the best way to set them on success. To hold this On-The-Job-Training( Charis A. Pillarina, an Business administration) has chosen (Rural Bank of Jaen) as a training ground in promoting professionalism.
Goals/Objectives of the On-The-Job-Training:
On the Job Training is one method by which students ar exposed with different work situation designed to give students an opportunity to experience and a chance to apply the theories and computation that they have learned from the school. It also helps the students to acquire relevant knowledge and skills by performing in actual work setting. During and after training, It should be able to gain both Office Management and Personal skills to be acquired:
A. Office Management Skills:
1. Provided opportunities to go through the actual methodologies of a specific job using the real tools, equipments and documents. 2. To learn more about his/her chosen field and practice what he/she have learned from the academy. 3. To provide the students with a venue to achieve efficient knowledge to the use of office management skills in industry, government and academy. 4. Build up the studentās competence, professionalism in dealing with people, quality awareness, collaboration skills, critical thinking abilities, discipline, ingenuity and independence. 5. Provide agencies with opportunities to observed and evaluate potential staff. 6. Strong organizational skills and high ethical standards. 7. Ability to communicate with people at all levels. 8. Good judgement, discretion and initiatives.
B. Personal Skills:
1. To gain self confidence and maturity through attention to qualities which are needed in the word of work to prepare us. 2. To learn how to communicate with others.
3. To acquire ability to work harmoniously with employers, workers and customers.
Core Values of the Organization Being Observed:
The following are the organizational values, knowledge and ability that I have taken and developed during our OJT to become Productive Individuals.
ļ¶ Commitment
We will be responsible in the performance of our assigned tasks as we dedicate ourselves to the vision and mission of the company and also to the goals of our school to have this training.
ļ¶ Integrity
We are committed to uphold ourselves to the principles of honesty and transparency in all our actions. Furthermore, we should not be easily influence by others and to take unnecessary actions that will let us in breaking our integrity.
ļ¶ Interpersonal Relationship
In order to have better communication with the employees/workers, they are always open to us whenever we have questions or we need some help. And because of regular communication with the employees, officials and co-trainees through daily encounter is one of the nice practices in order to develop not only our skills but in improving our relationship with them and to others.
ļ¶ Teamwork
Teamwork is really important in any organizations existing. We are committed to work as one family to achieve our common goal in the spirit of cooperation, mutual respect and trust; thus, teamwork must always be present.
ļ¶ Confidentiality
All financial and non financial date are confidential in nature. So we should not disclose it with third parties. The transactions are all about thousands and even millions of peso so that we should not disseminate it to the public particularly the withdrawals or deposits taken by the NRLBSL or the client involved. What we have heard or seen in the bank, will leave in the bank. ļ¶ Professional Behaviour
We are in the actual workplace, so we are practicing the world of professionalism thatās why we must act as professionals and we should maintain our behaviour in and outside the establishment. And I think we have complied with relevant laws and regulations of NRBSL and avoided any action that discredits us from our internship. ļ¶ Enthusiasm
On my training session, I have given more importance on it. At first, I thought that itās not easy to take OJT because there are lots of tasks and activities to be assigned and performed. But in enthusiastic way, āEven if you are tired, don;t stop on your work, stop when youāre doneā, and thatās really true to become Productive.
ļ¶ Politeness
We should respect our employee/ co-workers all the time. Always greet the clients, employees, officials, and co-trainees or smile at them at chances.
ļ¶ Punctuality
To be a productive person you need to be punctual. There should be no space of being late as the saying goes by that āTime is goldā. Every seconds of our life counts and is really important. We donāt need to waste our time and we should have proper time for each specific action. Honestly, I go to NRBSL on or before 8:00 in the morning to practice this important value.
An Evaluation of My Training:
A. Office Producers I Learned and Applied:
During our On-The-Job training. I learned some things that really helped me to improve my skills. ļ¶ I learned to manage time.
ļ¶ I learned how to use photocopy machine that I didnāt know how to use before. ļ¶ I become familiarize in the nature of banking.
ļ¶ I learned to ask someoneās help whenever I donāt know how to do. Because in my mind thereās a saying ā marunong ang nagtatanongā. ļ¶ I become responsible.
ļ¶ I become more polite to others in the way to greet them. ļ¶ I become more patience in the tasks given to us.
ļ¶ I learned to have confidence and strength to overcome my fears.
B. Activities or Tasks Performed at the New Rural Bank of Jaen This present the entire training period with the activities done by the trainee. It also shows the accomplishments and skills being enhanced during the Internship period that gave them the best training ground as a beginner.
In doing a task, we must exert our full effort into the maximum level in order to do what the task requires. The following are the tasks that I have peformed during my 250 hours of On-The-Job training.
Problems Encountered During Training and Solution
Everyone has a problem, even in school, family and organization. When I was on my training at Rural Bank of Jaen, I encountered problem which is the feeling of being not welcome in their company, I felt that some employees donāt like me, maybe they donāt want me to be part of their tasks. This problem isnāt a big deal, I didnāt say to anyone about my feeling I just kept it on my own because Iām not sure if my feelings is true. Maybe my interpretation was wrong thatās why I persuade to do my best to finish my tasks that they given. Maybe God was testing my patience at that time. As the day passes, I realized that my analysis about them was wrong. Theyāre just only serious during working hours.
Self Assessment
Intelligence is one of the key to succeed. No one can take it away from us. But having knowledge isnāt enough to succeed. We need to use it on the right way. We have to persist to anything undertaken to attain our goals. On my training I learned a lot such as improving my whole personality in terms of socialization and vision towards life. Iād realized that problems in life are like problems in work, we must search for the best solution. We couldnāt solve it without co-workers, co-trainees and employees. Itās like the saying āNo man is an islandā in other words, we couldnāt live only with ourselves we need the help of other people to overcome the problems in life. During the days of my training Iād familiarized what are the transactions in the bank was. But just like in real life we couldnāt avoid to commit mistakes. No one is perfect, I remember one time that I committed a mistake, they didnāt blame me instead they teach me how to do the task correctly. Sometimes the more we commit mistakes the more we learned the lesson because as what they said weāll learn a lot from our own mistakes. SO in the near future Iāll apply those things that I learned during my OJT time. In this training I can say that Iām transformed into a real better person.
OJT’s Narrative Report
It was on April 16,2008 when Phillip Caingles and I started our On-The-Job training at PhilCom. On that day, we were assigned in Network Management Center (NMC) Department. The supervisor and engineers welcomed us nicely. They oriented and taught us about the job that we were about to do on that day. After the orientation, Engr. Earl Clemen brought us to the Main Distribution Frame (MDF) where we met our co-ojtās in NMC, Mark Gregor Buot and Beverlyn Ranis, doing Pot Splitter Jumpering. They taught us on how to do it and so we tried to do the jumpering. Itās not that hard as long as you know about the horizontal and vertical connections in the MDF. Pot Splitter Jumpering is done whenever there is a new PhilCom subscriber. We do also Pot Splitter Removal to minimize the unnecessary connections that are not anymore active. We also do call thru for telephone line activation. On the following days, we used to go outside whenever there are subscriberās line problem or trouble tickets that will be sent to our department.
We did the troubleshooting together with the engineer usually at the Remote Line Units (RLU) or at Extended Line Units (ELU) depending on the location of the line problem. We did our troubleshooting in different approach. We will ask first for the subscriberās telephone number, if it is the correct number that we will troubleshoot then thatās the time we will do the proper troubleshooting of the line. Usually, we received complains about lost of the dial tone at subscriberās end. On our last day, we did the troubleshooting by our own. Fortunately, we were able to fix the problem. We were so satisfied in our task done. We were so happy, grateful and fortunate that we were able to experience and learn a lot of things that are related in the field of communications. Itās the best On-The-Job training here at PhilCom especially in NMC with the guidance of our supervisor Engr. Antonio Bontilao and supportive engineers- Engr.Earl, Engr.Jorge, Engr.Oliver, Engr. Abe, Engr. Theresa and Engr. Judith.
