Order NowSenator Claro M. Recto was the main opponent of the Rizal Law and Jose P. Laurel who defend the bill in the deliberation. Their reason in pushing for the enactment of the Rizal Law is to appreciate the works of Rizal and to be able to see ourselves, honoring not only Rizal but our heroes who died for the sake of our freedom against the invaders. The Catholic Church was the main antagonist. They was against it because Rizal violated the church’s Law, it said that the book of Rizal attack any of the Catholic dogmas and among the 333 pages of Noli Me Tangere, only 25 passage are patriotic while the 120 passages are anti-catholic.
As a student I was enlighten about Rizal Law. First, it made me curious about this issue because they said that it is hot issued around 1950’s and I found out that this is interesting, knowing that there were people who pursued that Rizal’s work must be shown to all the Filipinos and made them realized some things that they can learn and used someday, even using it in our daily lives once they read these books. I think it can also help our government nowadays, to renew or to changed the system of our government. Appreciating is one of the things that we must have because this is a way of a thanksgiving. Appreciating the works and sacrifices of our heroes by applying them in our daily lives, whenever where they are, maybe they are happy seeing that their death has meaningful.
