Order NowOn time
The main reason for this essay is because I did not follow out proper orders and was not at the correct place of duty for accountability of my person on two consecutive occasions. Regardless of my reasons for absence, there is no excuse big enough or serious not to make it on time to formation or at minimum give a courtesy call to my chain of command. I want to be an excellent soldier and I want to excel in the military. 1st sergeant would no doubt call this repeated action laziness, irresponsibility, and un-leadership like qualities that of which have neither the right to stake a claim of existence within nor to continue residing in the army.
However, as I may or may not have said before I’d like to stay and continue my rigorous journey up the treacherous road of leadership. The first step I need to put into action is making sure I am always accounted for which in turn means I am on time for place of duty if not fifteen or more minutes prior to the specified time. This is a simple task that is easy and painless to follow through on, and it WILL be accomplished! On a separate chord but the same note, the word punctuality comes to mind. Its definition through the dictionary is “acting or arriving exactly at the time appointed; prompt. Punctuality shows that you are responsible, trustworthy, and can follow directions. Punctuality isn’t just a hidden value that the army requires, but also a good personal trait that is a reflection of a person’s character; it shows that you have person integrity and self-discipline.
Under the rigid and disciplined structure of military life, there is no margin for error. The slightest modicum of hesitation or procrastination can result in the tragic loss of innumerable lives. There are many circumstances where a failure to be prompt could have dire consequences. Under certain circumstances, not arriving for guard duty at the designated time could allow a breach of security that could ultimately end in the brutal murder of peacefully, slumbering, unsuspecting battle buddies at the zealous hands of our insurgent enemies. Punctuality being an essential facet of military discipline has a direct correlation to the soldierly appearance and combat readiness of a unit. All rhetoric aside, without punctuality there can be no discipline. Without discipline we cannot efficiently close with and destroy the enemy. If we cannot efficiently close with and destroy the enemy we are no longer the Army
You could state that you need to be punctual and turn up for duty in case we are hit by an enemy force. Without all soldiers being punctual and doing their job there could be a serious loss of lives. Being punctual shows respect for your unit and those in command.
