Chapter I
Introduction
The makabuhay plant is a clinging vine, and the name itself suggests the primary purpose of such plant. Makabuhay is a Filipino translation of the English term ‘pro-life or to give life’. It is commonly known as the paliahan in the Visayas region. The plant belongs to the family of Menispermaceae, and can grow, or rather climb, up to fifteen meters long. The makabuhay leaves are thin sheets that are heart-shaped, and its flowers look distinct as they only have three petals. The makabuhay plant is known for its bitter nature, and the fruits of this plant are held in clusters, which can be as long as two centimeters.
This plant may be propagated by planting its stem, which contains a bitter sap. However, it is important to note that makabuhay can be found in most forests all over the Philippines. It grows in tropical areas, and it is of little wonder why it is abundant in a country like the Philippines. The fruits of this plant have not been utilized nor established to have medicinal values. Only the leaves and the stems of makabuhay have been found to cure particular health concerns. For the stems, both the dried and the fresh stems are found to be beneficial. Caterpillars are the larval form of members of the order Lepidoptera (the insect order comprising butterflies and moths). They are mostly herbivorous in food habit, although some species are insectivorous. Caterpillars are voracious feeders and many of them are considered to be pests in agriculture. Many moth species are better known in their caterpillar stages because of the damage they cause to fruits and other agricultural produce.
Purpose/Significance of the Study
The purpose of this study is to help people to lessen the insects in their place. To lessen the insects that destroys the plants in their gardens. To protect themselves from insects that give sickness. Tinospora. Rumphii( Makabuhay Plant) contains a bitter principle colombine, traces of alkaloid, and a glucoside, amorphous bitter principle picroretine, and traces of berberine. The bitter principle is glucosidal in nature. The two alkaloids present are tinosporine and tinosporidine that is used in pesticides and insecticide.
Statements of the Problems
The problems we encountered are the following
1. What will happen to the caterpillar when it eats the makabuhay plant?
2. Will it be effective as an insecticides?
3. Where can we find the materials to be used?
Hypothesis
Our hypothesis is that we can prove that the makabuhay plant is an effective insecticide. Our Hypothesis is that the makabuhay plant can be used as an organic insecticide. Insecticides now a days are harmful to our body and that if we can prove that the makabuhay plant is an effective insecticide we can use it to beautify the place and at the same time lessen the insects in the place.
Scope and Limitations
The study is focusing only on Makabuhay plant as insecticide and the effect of it to the caterpillar. The study has only one set up. The study only uses one plant and one kind of insect. The study aims only to prove the usefulness of the makabuhay plant as an Insecticide.

Procedure/ Experiment
Procedure for Makabuhay as Insecticide:
First buy or find a makabuhay plant. After finding or buying the plant find or buy the caterpillar. Place the caterpillar on the leaf of the plant then observe what will happen to the caterpillar after one week. After observing write the observation you gathered .

Data of the experiment
Day| Effects|
1| Nothing change with the caterpillar|
2| Nothing changed with the caterpillar|
3| Nothing change with the caterpillar|
4| The Caterpillar moved slowly|
5| The Caterpillar ate less|
6| The Caterpillar slowly died|
7| The Caterpillar died|
Chapter V
Conclusion and Recommendation
The conclusion of our group is that the caterpillar died because of the chemical that absorbs sunlight found in the makabuhay plant. The caterpillar died after a few days from eating the plant. The makabuhay plant
is effective as an insecticide because the caterpillar died after eating the plant.
Abstract
Our experiment aims to prove if the makabuhay plant is effective as an insecticide. The experiment is all about the effects of makabuhay plant to a caterpillar. We answered all of the problems that we encountered during the experiment. We concluded that the caterpillar will die if it eats the plant. We proved that the makabuhay plant is effective as an insecticide.
