Order NowI have only been playing Moba style PC Games for a year or so, but I feel as though Moba gaming has changed my whole view on gaming. I got so interested in to these types of games, that I tried all Moba PC Games out there. And I came to the conclusion that the top 2 are League of Legends (Lol) and Defense of the Ancients 2 (Dota 2). Now, I am trying to figure out which of these two games is the best Moba game out there! Through my personal experience and asking other professional gamers, I have found that both games have their own advantages and disadvantages. If you look at both of the games without playing them, they would actually look pretty similar. Well, both of them are Multiplayer Online Battle Arena games. In which you chose characters to fight it out as a team of 5. Both games have 2 different factions of characters to choose from. In League of Legends, you can chose champions from either Noxus or Demacia. As in Lol, in Dota 2, you can chose heroes from The Dire or The Radiant. At the start in both games, you start with x number of gold each and spawn at your spawn pool. You can use this gold to buy starting items and go to your lane.
In Lol, you get 475 gold and in Dota 2 you get 400. In each lane there are enemy and ally minions. You can kill enemy minions to get more gold. The goal of both games is to reach the other side and destroy your enemy nexus. That is basically how both games go. But there are many different aspects in each game. The professionals I asked said that Lol is an easier game for newer players while Dota 2 is a harder game. Dota 2 has a much bigger map than the Lol map. Both maps have three lanes and contain the fog of war. Lol has stealth bushes while Dota 2 doesn’t. Also, Lol has a total of 5 different maps with different styles to play the game. Unfortunately, Dota 2 doesn’t have this feature. While on the concept of maps, League of Legends has much better graphics than Dota 2. Also in game, Lol has the ability to switch graphics to fit your computer perfectly. League of Legends offers buffs in game. Buffs give special abilities to the champion for a limited amount of time. To get buffs, you have to kill a specific monster that is protecting it in the jungle. As with Lol, in Dota 2 you can obtain runes that apply special abilities for a limited time as well. Also, in Lol, there is a global buff that is given to all members of the team that kills the Baron, in addition to receiving global gold and experience. In Dota 2, there is no Baron Buff or anything similar to that.
One big feature of League of Legends is the ability to jungle. Jungling is a single role that a champion goes in to the jungle or forest and farm up gold there. And then they come help other lanes by killing the enemy champion. This feature is what really made Lol very popular. This feature isn’t available in Dota 2. But Dota 2 has a special feature which isn’t available in Lol. This feature is the ability is to deny your enemies farm by killing you own minions. By doing this, you deny your opponent some of his farm and gold. League of Legends has much more characters to choose from than Dota 2, but Dota 2 has more items in game. Also, in Lol, you have masteries tree and rune book that you can prepare before a battle. Masteries and runes let you enhance a character.
You can have up to 10 rune and mastery pages each. League of Legends has the highest gaming community of any Moba game. Lol has 10 times more players than Dota 2. Both games, unfortunately, consist of trolls that ruin of people’s games. Beside that fact, Lol has major tournaments going around the world. Season 2 of Lol has a prize pool of 5 Million Dollars to the winners. According to statistics, more people watch League of Legends tournaments than Major League Baseball! Dota 2 has championships as well, but not that big of a prize pool as Lol. I have been thoroughly thinking about the similarities and differences I just described, and I have decided that the question isn’t really, “Which game is better?” but it is actually “What game do I enjoy playing more?” I still don’t know the answer to that yet. But maybe you have decided for yourself which game you could probably start playing! For me, I enjoy both games a lot!
