She held several jobs, while studying to attain her GED, taking business classes at a community college. Iliana used her education to transform into a successful salon owner. Roman describes her traumatic testimony on how determined she was to make her life successful after she realized the mistake that she made earlier on in her life. Roman accomplishment, even in times of fate, settles off for her any time throughout life. She determines to instill in her mind what she wants, why she wants it, and not letting anybody or anything get in her way. I have seen first-hand how the idea that hard work pays off is not a one dimensional mindset, that it can be applied to an aspects of life and yield success. “My children motivate me. You can always do better in life, and I am one to do better, better, better” (815). Roman describe how learning can come with written and unwritten rules in life and on the job, including how to deal with obstacles, tough bosses, how to consider people, how to treat people, and harassment.
Work ethic is a good trait to have when trying make it in the real world, like Roman did. In my life I try to keep a good work ethic and stay well motivated. But for me, it is easy to get motivated. But once I am motivation to do something, it clicks in and work ethic just comes normal. “I think if you set your mind to learn something you`ll learn it; there’s no stopping you” (815). Our family is the most important people in our lives. What do you think? I think generally we sometimes don’t appreciate the kind of love and support we get from family members. Roman looked up to her father as an inspirational and wanted her children to look up to her as the same. Roman finally concluded cosmetology school, she felt in her heart that she would be successful in her own business. “so that`s something I was proud of because I did it, Thanks to my father and mother, of course, because they helped so much” (816).She got what she wanted, she was able to provide for herself and her children, and she was able to provide a role model, especially in a neighborhood where the children needed someone to look up to. Roman, she had a very supportive family.
While her father served as her inspiration to work hard at something she loved, it helped her throughout all of her career jobs she held. My dad was there for me; he helped me. He told me, “if you take it seriously and finish cosmetology school, I will buy you your own salon” (817). “Thank God for him! It was the best thing I ever did, because it helped me accomplish everything I wanted to accomplish” (815). She was determined to make her life successful after she realized the misconception that she made beforehand in her life. She got experience from working with the money aspect of a business from her job at Sportmart when she worked with all the payrolls and computers. After working there, Circuit City, and a car dealership, she winds up opening her own salon with full confidence in herself. One downside of her never having her own company was she had no experience with hiring employees.
When roman was ready to hire staff, she got in touch with friends from cosmetology school. She learned that sometimes you can’t mix friendship and business together .she wound up hiring two friends , and they took advantage of her , they thought they could possible get over on her .They would smoke and not clean up after themselves . They would even go as far as beyond making their own schedule. They would also show up hours late with clients in line waiting for them and Roman had to suffer the consequences. Some of the lessons that Roman learned from pervious jobs have taught her to always having a positive attitude and always thinking that you can do something instead of thinking you can’t always came up in whatever she did whether it was working at Sportmart or owning her own salon.
Roman compared “A stylist and a psychologist are a little alike.” (819). She believe her clients comes to her to release stress. Roman, essay was to tell her story to readers, tell from her point of view on how been nobody can transform you into Successful person. Her story was to teach readers, no matter what obstacles come towards your way, to keep pushing forward. It’s never too late to strive for your goals.
