When you read through them you can see how these can impact the lives of young people.
1.2. Explain the importance and impact of poverty on outcomes and life chances for children and young people. Page 186-188 in text book. Children who are brought up in a disadvantaged background fare badly in terms of earning and employment chances as young adults. Many children will continue to live in the same way they were brought up because either they haven’t been given any other choices in life or they are accepting of the way they were brought up. 1.3. Explain the role of children and young people’s personal choices and experiences on their outcomes and life chances. For children to achieve in life they need to be given choices and a wide range of experiences. Those children that are given choices are given a way to change their life if they wish to take it. Settings give children plenty of choice in the sessions and offer many life experiences both within the setting and with visitors and trips. You can’t make a child make the right choice but you can show they exciting possibilities and opportunities that hopefully they will want to chose.

Spider diagram on page 192 shows how we design children’s services and it’s important to do this so they are offered the best possible opportunities to achieve their full potential.
2.3. Explain the importance of active participation of children and young people in decisions affecting their lives.
Active participation gives the children and parents a say in how provision is made for them. This is important as it is a requirement of the EYFS and also helps to make the children more confident and able to tackle situations that are new to them.

3. Understand the possible impact of disability, special requirements (additional needs) and attitudes on positive outcomes for children and young people. 3.1. Explain the potential impact of disability on the outcomes and life chances of children and young people.
You will need to give a couple of different examples of the impact of disability on the outcomes of life chances as dependant on the disability, dependant on the impact. Page 197 will help. However after the para Olympics nothing now seems impossible.
3.2. Explain the importance of positive attitudes towards disability and specific requirements.
Young children are very accepting of differences and it’s only as they go to school that they begin to be less accepting. Children shouldn’t be labelled and every possible attempt at making the activity and setting appropriate for that child should be done. Again a positive ‘what can they do’ rather than ‘what can’t they do’ helps to build the childs self esteem and make them accepted by their peers. Again the para Olympics have been an eye opener for this.
3.3. Explain the social and medical models of disability and the impact of each on practice. Key terms are on page 199 explaining this and you need to add how they impact in practice.

Definitions are on page 201 and the context of positive outcomes are that by applying these it protects and promotes children’s rights.
4.2 Compare giving examples ways in which services for children and young people and their carers take account and promote equality, diversity and inclusion to promote positive outcomes.
How to do make sure that each of the above is fulfilled in the nursery and what impact does it have on the children and family? For example if you have posters and toys showing different nationalities this shows children that there are other people in the world and they may not all look the same but they can all play and learn and do things that they can do. This will help them accept different cultures.
