Diversity can be when a service user wants to go to a certain type of church/mosque/temple and the service should provide staffing for that person to go to the preferred place based on religious beliefs.

Equality
Equal rights for people regardless of what factors they might have that is different. People of all sex, religion etc must be treated as equals. A service user should never be excluded from partaking in certain activities/meals due to sex, religion or disability.

Inclusion
Being involved in society, making sure all have opportunities to work or take part in social activities even though they may have a disability. e.g. Mental health problems. Taking service users to use the train, shopping, bowling, swimming and helping them to access the community. Working on a person centred plan. Confidentiality means a situation in which any kind of information of the service users, employers or employees must be kept secret, private and cannot be passed on to any other person or organization who are not legally authorised to keep hold of it in any form i.e. spoken, written or electronically. The purpose of this Confidentiality Policy is to lay down the principles that must be observed by all health and social care workers within the health and social care sitting. As a senior care assistant I must have to observe the principles of confidentialities at all times keeping in view the ‘agreed ways of working’ with my employer and service users.

I am very consciencous person and have been brought up to always show respect and treat others as i would like others to treat me. I think this definately reflects in my work and how i behave in general. I am a very much a ‘people’ person and have always been interested in really getting to know people. I am the joker in my group of friends, always having a laugh and social a lot. I always look on the bright side of a situation. Im a great believer of happiness promotes happiness. I also notice when empathy is needed. I have a very large family, this makes me realise the enormity of diversity. I have 4 siblings, all from the same background with the same upbringing but we couldn’t be more different. This just goes to show that you should never stereotype.

Everyone is their own person which makes everyone unique. We often have differences of opinion, we have learned over the years to listen to each other as well as voice our own opinions. My Mother is Church of England and my Father is a catholic so i was bought up to choose my own prefences in faith. i think this has benefited me because i have learned to respect that everybody has different beliefs, if any at all. I think this makes it much easier for me to understand that everyone is different. I show no prejudice at all towards anybody at any time.I like talking to my clients about their prefernces and beliefs and try to help them practice their faith as much as posible.

For example I have an elderly man in my care who is a muslim, i shall call him Mr. S. Mr S suffers from demensia and sometime forgets to pray, muslims pray facing towards mecca. We have put a sign in his room to help him face the right way to pray and remind him when to do so if he wants to. Mr. S also only eat halal meat, we cater for this. If any of the other residents ever ask why he does these things we encourage Mr. S to talk about his religion and explain it to the other clients, they are genuinely.

Diversity is all about difference, and its value is the quality and variety that different people bring to society. Examples of how people differ from one another, it can be through appearance, ability, race, gender, culture, talent and beliefs.

Equality is about everybody being equal to one another, but not necessarily treating them all the same. Because everyone’s needs are different you as a support worker have to look at the individuals needs, and assess what you can do to improve their quality of life, whilst keeping them safe and still promoting independence.

Inclusion is about involving everyone in society, making sure all have opportunities to work or take part in social activities even though they may have a disability. E.g. mental health problems.

Discrimination is stopping someone from their right to speak up and voice themselves properly or not let them do an activity, this can happen to either a certain group of people or it can just be one person. Nonetheless its a very cruel way to get to somebody. Also this leads to more serious matters such as a major loss of self esteem and this can reduce their ability to develop and maintain a sense of identity.

The equality act is a legislation that is in place to ensure that people are given equal rights and opportunities regardless of their age, gender, disability, reace, religion or belief and sexual orientation. This legislation promotes diversity, equality and inclusion by making it a requirement that they are commonly practiced and incorporated into the health and social care setting making it illegal to discriminate against a person / or persons for any reason.

Equality: Equality defined basically means equal rights for people regardless of what factors they might have that are different. Equality states that because they are human they must be equal. Example: every one is treated the same way.
