Order NowThe great Gatsby book started with a man telling us his father advised him never to criticize anyone , he said his father told him he should remember that all this people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had and his father thought him how to be reserved. He also have good manners and a well honourable character. Nick just graduated from yale university and he moved to new york. Nick stayed in west egg a long island in new york, he describes his house as less fashionable and he compares his house with Mr Gatsby his neighbour, he described his house as a Gatsby mansion, nick says his house his an eyesore compared to Gatsby’s mansion. He used metaphor to describe his house “ My own house was an eyesore”. Nick usually described houses in East egg for the rich people he says the houses is characterized by “lavish displays of wealth”.Nick is unlike his West Egg neighbours; whereas they lack social connections and aristocratic pedigrees, Nick visited his cousin Daisy and her husband, he realized that daisy’s house was more beautiful than his.
Tom buchanan is daisy’s former member of nick’s social club at yale then. Tom is usually fascinated with arguments concerning racism. Nick tried to interest daisy and daisy’s friend Jordan with the book called the rise of the coloured empires by a name called Goddard, Daisy teased tom with the book then he interrupted with a call then left Daisy follows him hurriedly, and Jordan tells Nick that the call is from Tom’s lover in New York. After an awkward dinner, the party breaks up. Jordan wants to go to bed because she has a golf tournament the next day. As Nick leaves, Tom and Daisy hint that they would like him to take a romantic interest in Jordan. Nick arrives home, he saw mr Gatsby standing close to the dark water.
Nick looks out at the water he can only see a distant green light that might make the end of a dock. A quote i realized important in this chapter is “ i hope she will be a fool- that is the best thing a girl i can be in this world , a beautiful little fool”. I feel it explains that daisy doesn’t to take life so serious and doesn’t seem to value intelligence in women. Is tom more respectful and responsible than Nick. I feel that nick is more responsible because he is not cheating on anyone and Nick is not cheating on anyone and nick is seen as a humble person while Tom argues about racism. And the beginning of the chapter where he talks about his father advising him to criticize can be expressed as foreshadowing. Daisy reminds me of ophelia in the book hamlet. Ophelia doesn’t take life really serious as daisy. Daisy also really loves and trusts her husband like the way ophelia loved hamlet.
JOURNAL TWO
In this journal Nick describes the “Gray valley” as a a decay place of the valley in New york, i think he sees it as a valley that has no beauty. Tom and nick went for a train ride, then tom forces nick to follow him to one of the stops. Tom took nick to Wilson’s garage, wilson is the husband of myrtle, he was described with the grey colour which shows that he is a poor man and that he is lifeless. Myrtle was always very admiring to tom despite her very full figure. Tom took myrtle with him to morning side height apartment in new york after commanding myrtle husband because he wasn’t has rich as he was, he took myrtle from him. Tom, myrtle and nick went to an impromptu party, the party was made by Catherine, myrtle sister, catherine is describes as a woman with the red hair and she wears a lot of makeup on her face. Catherine and nick were having a conversation and she told nick that Gatsby is the cousin to the ruler of the first world war, Kaiser wilhelm. I realized that Nick is a reserved person and he is usually not sure of his decisions Nick has a repulse attitude to the vulgarity of the party, while myrtle continues drink and talk louder. I feel is very unfaithful because he doesn’t feel bad cheating on his wife daisy.
He also takes the advantage that Myrtle’s husband isn’t rich to get Myrtle. The party also shows how famous Gatsby is in new york. This chapter reminds me of the kite runner, it reminds me of how famous Baba is, and how so many people talk about him same as Gatsby, Gatsby is very famous and lots of people talk about him and also Baba and Gatsby were famous because of their wealth.Gatsby spends and lavishes his money on great party that he usually holds in his mansion, Gatsby invited Nick to one of his party, Nick felt he wasn’t belong to the social class in the party but he attended the party, guests and people in the party constantly gossiped about Gatsby and how he got his wealth but everyone seem to be unsure. The party Gatsby held is a very luxurious one and Nick felt he he wasted money on the party, the crowd in the party continued to get louder and many people got drunk before the end of the party. Nick met jordan Baker in the party, Daisy’s friend the one he met in her house, jordan and nick were talking before the both went out to listen to Mr Gatsby’s speech, and he introduced the speech very well elaborate and formal.
Nick realized that Mr Gatsby makes the party but he doesn’t drink nor join the party he just stays on his own on the marble steps watching the guests. Gatsby then ordered a butler to tell jordan he would like to meet her, jordan left to see mr Gatsby while nick went to say bye to mr Gatsby and he left the party. Nick starts to walk home, he sees an owl eyes struggling to get his car and he saw another man climb out of the wrecked car and the owl drunkenly tells us that he washes his hand off the whole business. This shows that there is something that isn’t loyal about Gatsby. Nick feels he is attracted to jordan baker although he knows she is a dishonest person, but he cant actually control his feelings. An important quote is “He had one of those rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that you may come across four or five times in life”. This explains that Gatsby smile captures the heart of people.
My Third Journal
Nick and mr Gatsby became close friends and they started talking frequently, mr Gatsby and Nick went to have lunch together, as they spoke to each other, Gatsby tells nick about his past but his story seemed untrue, he claims he’s a son of the wealthy deceased parents from the Midwest. He also graduated form Oxford University he even had a picture of him playing cricket as a prove. Gatsby is so famous to the extent that when he got stopped my a policeman when we was speeding, all he did was to shadow them a white card and the police man apologized for stoping him. Gatsby takes nick to lunch and he introduces Nick to Meyer Wolfsheim. Wolfsheim is a shady character with underground business connections. This gives nick the feeling that Mr Gatsby’s wealth is not pleasant. after the lunch, Nick saw Jordan, and Jordan told him mr Gatsby and daisy use to love each other then, that mr Gatsby told her, mr Gatsby also said he was in love with her during first world war, daisy love him too but she married tom after he left during the first world war, he also bought his mansion in west egg just to be close to daisy then Nick remembered the day mr Gatsby was starring at the water he realized the green light in the water was daisy’s duck. Jordan also told Nick that Mr Gatsby wants a date, just him and Daisy but he know if he ask daisy she wouldn’t come, so mr daisy wants Jordan to convince nick to make a date for him and daisy is long love.
Gatsby still worries that even is daisy accepts him, she might not love him the way she did in Louisville where they met. One day nick visited Gatsby and Gatsby was so excited and he told nick to help make the date and he promised to give him money and grass nick was quite upset by what mr Gatsby was doing but he promised to make the date. Nick could convince daisy and the date happened, at first it was awkward , then Nick returns and found them radiantly happy. Daisy shedding tears of joy. She begins to cry more when Gatsby showed her the duck and he said he stays alone dreaming about their future happiness. Their love became stronger and Mr Gatsby and Daisy seem to have forgotten about tom. This chapter is ironical because Daisy is seen as a faithful woman but she’s still in love with mr Gatsby and i also feel that nick allows the date because he knows that tom is cheating on Daisy with myrtle s he allowed the date just to end the marriage.
My Fourth Journal
Rumours about Gatsby continues to spread as a reporter even come to Gatsby’s home to interview. As Nick continues to write Gatsby he links it to Gatsby’s history how he was born in James Gatsby and attended a college which he dropped out from two weeks after he hated the means by which he paid his school fees. Then how he went by which on board in a yacht with a wealthy copper mogul, Dan Mogul who he became a personal assistance to. Gatsby followed him to the coast and west indies and fell in love with wealth. When cody died he left $ 25,000 for Gatsby but his mistress denied Gatsby of it after this, Gatsby decided to became to become a successful wealthy man. Tom becomes suspicious of Daisy and Gatsby’s relationship because she always went to Gatsby’s house alone. Tom and Daisy attend a party at Gatsby ‘s house, although he is not interested he decides to go because of his dislikes for Gatsby to keep an eye on Daisy. After the party Gatsby complains to Nick that he wants Daisy with him but Nick reminds him on how he cannot go back to the past. Gatsby feeels his money can accomplish anything as far as Daisy is concerned.
Nick also feels that the first time kissed diasy became the moment Daisy became the dominant force in his life. An important quote “ the truth was that jay Gatsby, of west egg, long island spray from his plastic conception of himself” this quote shows the comparison between Gatsby and jesus christ.this shows jesus, the son of God. Then brought himself to run by refusing to recognize the reality that denied his self conception. It explains that Gatsby and jesus christ are faithful to their creator but scornful of the real truth that finally hits him and his dreams. Nick visited East egg for a lunch at Daisy’s house and to also see Jordan baker, the nurse brought Daisy’s baby girl and Gatsby is so surprise. Despite that Daisy has a baby girl, Gatsby and Daisy still love their selves passionately, Tom is becoming to realize.
Tom, Daisy, Nick and Jordan all went to New York together, there Tom realized that Gatsby and Daisy had something together and he realized that they liked each and he got really upset. After the accident that they saw when Tom, Jordan and Nick were going back home which was myrtle who was hit by a car. The car was described a man and Nick realized it was Gatsby car that hit myrtle. Tom was angry and confronted Gatsby, then he had a long talk with Myrtle leaving Gatsby standing outside alone in the moonlight. Tom and Daisy reconciled and they started talking. I feel Gatsby really loves daisy so much. Gatsby Sacrifices himself to Daisy. My Fifth Journal
By chapter eight in the “The Great Gatsby” we experience Nick awaking up after the occurrences of chapter 7 with a portentous need to tell Gatsby something, “something to warn him about and morning would be too late” (154). Gatsby reveals that nothing happened while he kept his watch at the Buchanan. In Gatsby’s agony he tells Nick the story of Daisy and the love shared before he needed to go abroad to fight in the war. Gatsby narrates the story about how he tried getting back home after the war but found himself in Oxford instead which caused a bit of a misunderstanding on Daisy’s path that led on to the ending of the relationship as she couldn’t wait any longer. In reality the men talk about how Gatsby searches for Daisy and finds her in her honeymoon, Gatsby blames himself for not searching harder as they eat lunch the gardener walks in and talks about the pool and in that moment Nick tries slipping away to his train although he doesn’t want to leave Gatsby because he says “They’re a rotten crowd . . . You’re worth the whole damn bunch put together.”
Nicks day goes on easy and he tries calling Gatsby but is unable to reach him decides to go home early. A series of flashbacks occur after a while he remembers as George Wilson, despondent at Myrtle’s death, appears irrational when Michaels attempts to engage him in conversation. By morning, Michaels is exhausted and returns home to sleep. When he returns four hours later, Wilson is gone and has traveled to Port Roosevelt, Gads Hill, West Egg, and ultimately, Gatsby’s house. There he finds Gatsby floating on an air mattress in the pool. Wilson, sure that Gatsby is responsible for his wife’s death, shoots and kills Gatsby. Nick finds Gatsby’s body floating in the pool and, while starting to the house with the body; the gardener discovers Wilson’s lifeless body off in the grass. Quotes from Chapter 8
-“She vanished into her rich house, into her rich, full life, leaving Gatsby – nothing. He felt married to her, that was all.” -“A New world – material without being real.”
-“God sees everything,’ repeated Wilson
Nick feels that he alone is on his neighbour’s side, as Gatsby’s house floods with police, photographers, and newspapermen. He soon discovers that Daisy and Tom Buchanan has left town. A letter is sent to Meyer Wolfshiem informing him of Gatsby’s death and although he agrees to be shocked he simply doesn’t have time to organize a burial. As Nick stays by the dead body he gets a call with some information to prove that Gatsby was involved in some illegal things. After the burial that Gatsby’s father attended Nick decided to go Mideast and meet Jordan who is engaged. Finally, on his last night in West Egg, Nick goes over to Gatsby’s house — that “huge incoherent failure of a house” (188) — where he finds some boy has scrawled an obscene word with a piece of brick on the front steps. After erasing it, Nick walks to the beach, reflecting on how Gatsby’s green light — one man’s hope for the future — was actually just part of an unattainable past. Quotes
*Tom and Gatsby, Daisy and Jordan, and I, were all Westerner’s, and perhaps we possessed some deficiency in common which made us subtly in adaptable to Eastern life.
