Research Statement: despite the fact that Pangil is not a well- known place in Laguna, it is actually rich in history, landmarks, and culture. Goal: To develop and enchance the real beauty of Ambon Ambon Falls. I. Introduction: Ambon- Ambon Falls is one of many best tourist destination in our country.

II. Body: Ambon Ambon Falls background information and history/

1. History of Pangil River
a) The Pangil River (Tagalog: Ilog ng Pangil),
also known as the Bambang Hari River, is a river system that runs through Pangil, Laguna in the Philippines. It is one of 21 River tributaries of Laguna de Bay and is regularly monitored by the Laguna Lake Development Authority(LLDA) through one of its 15 river monitoring stations. The Pangil River sub-basin has a drainage area of 51.14 square kilometers.

b) How it got name Bambang Hari River –

Part of the river is referred to as the Bambang Hari which, translated, means “riverbank of the king” because in the mid-18th century, King Carlos III of Spain visited Pangil when he was still a prince, and it was said that he used to frequent river often. When he was crowned king, he sent the images of the Santo Niño de la O and the Birhen de la O to Pangil in gratitude. the Birhen de la O, which shows a pregnant Virgin Mary, is believed to be miraculous.

c) Conservation

In the latest (December 2005) Water Quality Status Report listed on the Laguna Lake Development Authority’s site, the Pangil River was listed as “Worse than Class D.” It also indicated that this status had been “maintained” since the river was last monitored. According to the Water Usage & Classification for Fresh Water system used by the Philippines Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Class D Quality freshwater is suitable for agriculture, irrigation, livestock watering and industrial water supply class

II. “Worse than Class D” implies that the Pangil River is not suitable for any of those functions.In 1980, International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) researcher DA Vaughan documented six populations of Oryza minuta Presl. A wild rice species known to be resistant to bacterial blight, bacterial blast, green planthopper, and brown planthopper – along a stream which is a tributary of the Pangil river.A 2004 survey noted with alarm that all the populations were gone. The report attributed the disappearance of the rare and useful species of rice to human activities, particularly “livestock raising, farming, and road construction, which destroy the natural vegetation within the vicinity.”Scientists have noted that further studies are needed to prevent the local extinction of this species. 2. a. Ambon – Ambon falls or also known as the Piit resort is one of the famous swimming places in Pangil, laguna b. It is being managed by Mr. Raymund Diaz, the Chief of Tourism Operations. The park is located at Natividad Extension, Brgy., Natividad, Pangil, Laguna. c. Local tourists are attracted to the place because of its nature settings. d. The place has a number of trees which produces fresh air; e. The water from the dam is cool and clean because of it’s continues flow from the natural spring.

f. It has wooden bridge which will lead you to the dam and to the resort proper. g. The water in the dam continues to flow and most of the people who come to visit the place spent their time swimming. h. If you are not capable to swim in the dam, there is a swimming pool nearby where most of the children spend their time. i. If you would like to go to the Ambon- ambon falls, you will need to hike for about thirty minutes. You will also need to ride on three balsas which are made of bamboos.Once you already reach the Ambon- Ambon falls, you will not regret your chance of being there because of the attractive ambiance of the place. Ambon- Ambon Falls is one of many best tourist destination in our country. Ambon-Ambon Falls is one of the many waterfalls found in Laguna. It is a 30-minute hike from Panguil Eco Park. The trek to the falls started from this mark:

It is mandatory that a tour guide accompanies the visitors of the falls. The fee is Php60 per person for a minimum of six people per trip. Lifejackets and helmets are issued prior to the tour as the hike includes crossing of the Panguil River and walking a trail where there may be falling rocks. The children are aware that the gear is primarily for their safety but they are more excited by the thought that life vests and helmets simply guarantee an adventure. The management of Panguil Eco Park does a good job in making sure the trail is safe even for youngsters to take. Although the waters may not be very deep around the waterfalls, it is advisable to always grab the safety ropes.

There are certain spots that have strong water current that drop to fifteen feet and a wrong footing may cause an accident. I will not suggest to bring children who do not know how to swim.
