Legal Awareness

“Legal awareness is the need of the hour” for the good of the common masses. For a common man laws are a set of rules or regulations which they have to abide by in order to escape the imprisonment and fine imposed by the government. Knowing law is just not important only for the business class groups, lawyers, judges, victims, etc but for each and every existing human being whether whatever its status may be. “Every human has four endowments- self awareness, conscience, independent will and creative imagination. These give us the ultimate human freedom. The power to choose, to respond, to change.” Laws like consumer laws, taxes laws, education laws, property laws, etc cover the day-to-day activities of the commons. So that people can stand against the wrongs done to them.

Like for an instance a housewife goes to buy the household for her house and f there is some defect in the commodities then she can ask the buyer to exchange or compensate her or else she can go to the consumer forums for it. (Donoghue v Stevenson) But to quote that the government has been inefficient in spreading awareness. The government has done its job of framing laws but still its incomplete as for whom these laws have been made are unaware of it. For instance there have been many developments in the railway laws. A person who books an e-ticket has to show his/her identity proof to validate their identity on the ticket. And as a result of the unawareness they have to get themselves issued new tickets for the same seat and paying again the full cost. “The world is not a problem; the problem is your unawareness” Key words- legal awareness, consumer, common good, government, laws.
