Biii – Identify two changes to personal information which you must report to your employer Your telephone number and your address would need to be reported to your employer if they are ever changed. Biv – Describe the procedure to follow if you wanted to raise a grievance I would first got to my Supervisor then if that didn’t work I would go to the Manager and then to the Owner and for my final solution I would go to Acas. Bv – Explain the agreed ways of working with your employer in relation to the following areas: Data protection- It provides accurate, current information concerning the condition and the care of the service user.
It also keeps a record of any problems and action that may need to be taken. Also that we need to record if there are any kind of factors that will affect the service user. This also has a purpose to make sure we are accurate in whatever we write down, and anything that happens should be noted down as soon as an even has happened. It needs to be dated, timed and signed. Provide clear evidence of the care planned, decisions made, care delivered and information shared. Everything needs to be written clearly so that black text cannot be erased. Grievance- The employer should always let the employee know who to contact if they ever have a grievance. It is designed to fairly resolve any staff/management conflicts. There is a 3 step grievance procedure:
1. Statement of Grievance- It should first be dealt with informally and if that does not work then the employee should formally write a letter explaining their grievance and send it to their manager who is not the subject of the grievance.
2. The meeting- The employer must invite the employee to a meeting. The employee has the right to be accompanied by a fellow colleague or a trade’s union representative. The colleague who accompanied the employee is protected from dismissal. It should be held at a reasonable time. After the meeting the employer must notify the employee of their decision and let them know they have the right to appeal if they feel the grievance hasn’t been satisfactorily resolved. 3-The appeal meeting- The employee must inform the employer if they have decided to appeal and has the right to be accompanied. After the meeting the employer must inform the employee of their final decision. Conflict management
Anti-discriminatory practice- It believes that every member of staff or service user has the right to work or live in the home free of any threat of racial discrimination. Racial harassment may include commenting on their race, colour, ethnic or national origin which is unwanted by the recipient. Everyone has the right to complain about racial harassment, be protected from racial harassment and to be free from false allegations or racial harassment. If you are found guilty of racial discrimination then you may be dismissed. All new staff should read this policy on their induction. Health & safety- Employers should protect the health and safety of the employees, protect the health and safety of others who might be affected by the way they go about their work, such as service users, contractors, agency staff. Employees must take care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions. Care homes need to be safe to live in but at the same time pleasant to live in.
It needs to be made sure that there is a balance to ensure that the health and safety of a person is not put at risk and the independence of others is not restricted. Good standards of health and safety cannot be achieved without cooperation of employees. Confidentiality- Service users put considerable trust in the staff that they will not go giving people information who should not have access to this. This both applies to written and spoken words. Service users should feel confident to disclose personal information knowing that what is said will be treated with respect and confidentiality. You should not talk about the service users outside of work. Also confidentiality can be between staff and their managers. You may be telling others your personal issues and it may go around th3e home as “gossip”. If staff freely talk about personal issues they will need to accept the repercussions. Whistleblowing- It is designed to proper employees from being victimised by their employer, so they will “blow the whistle” on wrong doing. Work places try to create an environment which enables staff to raise whatever concerns they have. Staff are assured if they raise a genuine concerns under this policy they will not be at risk of punitive action being taken against them.
However this doesn’t not cover people who maliciously raise an issue that they know not to be true. An employee can make a disclosure based on the following: A criminal offence, breach of legal obligation, miscarriage of justice, danger to the health and safety of an individual, damage to the environment, fraud or corruption, or trying to cover up any of the previous. This policy does not apply to someone with personal grievances, or even bullying/harassment. Bvi – Explain how your role contributes to the overall delivery of the service provided. There are many things that I do as a care assistant to contribute to the overall delivery of the service provided, for example I provide the best possible care I can give to the service user and I always make sure I communicate with them effectively just to make them feel safe. I am involved in their day to day activities and personal needs. I may sometimes write in their care plan and read and sign their care plans. As an apprentice I will work with my mentor to make sure that I can provide the correct and safest care possible for individual service users.
Bvii – Explain how you could influence the quality of the service provided by; Following best practice within your work role; by following the best practice I am ensuring that the service users are getting the best possible care resulting in them being happy where they are. This also helps the service provider obtain a good name and trust with the families of the service users. Not carrying out the requirements of your role; if I do not carry out the requirements of my job role as a carer I could seriously harm any of the service users as I will not be looking out for their best interests and making sure I am thinking about their health and safety the whole time I’m at work. Also if I didn’t carry out what was required of me then I may make the service user feel like I haven’t treated them with respect and dignity.
Also would reflect badly on the service provider and complaints from se4rvice users family may occur. Bvii – Describe how your own work must be influenced by National factors such as codes of Practice, National Occupational Standards, Legislation and Government initiatives. These National factors such as the Codes of Practice and National Occupational Standards are there to give you guidance, standards and rules to follow in your work place. The Legislation and government initiatives are there to tell you what you must and mustn’t do in your work place. Bix – Identify two different representative bodies which influence your area of work. A- Care Quality Commission and General Social Care Council.
Describe the role of the two representative bodies that you have identified. General Social Care council- This is the social care workforce regulator for England. It works to improve the quality of social services for the benefit of people who use services though regulations of the work force and through its contributions to social work education. It has 3 main functions: It issues and distributes codes of practice for social care workers and their employers, it maintains the register of social care workers and it regulates social work education and training. Care Quality commissions- This makes sure hospitals, care homes, dental and GP surgeries and other care services in England provide people with safe, compassionate, effective and high quality of care, and encourages these services to make improvements. It does this by inspecting the services and publishing the results on its website to help you make a better decision about the care you receive.
