“Night” by Elie Wiese

The book “Night” is the first book of a trilogy (three-part series) written by Elie Wiesel. This book is about his first hand experience in Nazi German concentration camps with his father. It takes place between the beginning of the Holocaust and the end of World War II.

Primary and Secondary Sources, like books or documents. They help us find out what happened in the past. Depending on how it is being used makes an object a primary source and or secondary source. If the sources are being used together that, Its to help get understanding of events, people, and ideas of the past. Primary sources are made up by. The time a event occurred or after something happened. These sources are often one-of-a-kind. People use first-hands accounts to create stories from the past. Since they are the first evidence of something happening or being said or thought. These Accounts are called Primary Sources. Some examples of primary sources would be. Letters, Maps, Diaries , sound recordings , and photographs. Secondary Sources they are created after primary sources and. They also often use or talk about primary sources. Second-hand, published accounts are called secondary sources. The can give additional opinions on a primary source or past event. It has many copies that could be found in schools, homes, and libraries. History textbooks, Biographies, Art, and music recordings. If they tell an event that happened a long time ago. They can all be secondary sources.

When Is Primary Source not a Primary Source? The deference between a primary and secondary source is determined on they were originally created and they are being used. You may or may not have noticed that some things are under both the lists primary and secondary sources. That is NO mistake. A talented artist who painted many scenes from Canda’s past. Name is C.W. Jefferys. People would argue that his illustrations are not primary sources. Even though they illustrate events of the past. Other people would argue that C.W. Jeffery’s paintings are a primary source. They would say that his bias, and how he illustrated historical events are like reflections on how
he thought and what he believed. How would you put together paintings created way after a, event occurred? Are they primary or secondary sources? What do you even think?

Who even cares? What is the whole point of primary and secondary sources? Why should you care? I mean some adults can’t even make up their mind’s of which is which? Well over 100 years ago a German historian said it was important to write about what happened in the past, “as if it really happened.” A lot of people today agree that it is impossible to know like what really happened in history. Believe it or not but lots of people can’t even remember what they did 3 days ago. However if not careful about the facts, it can really make a mess and even make some huge lies about the past.

The Book Night is a Secondary source because. It Is a Published story. Also it was written about something that was seen a long while ago after it all happened. It say’s in the story “In 1944, in the village of Sighet, Romania, twelve-year-old Elie Wiesel spends much time and emotion on the Talmud and on Jewish mysticism.” So there for this story Night is a Secondary Source.
