Conflicting Opinions on a Political Topic

Politics, in general, can be unsettling topic to discuss because it can be a very controversial topic due to citizens can voice their opinions about what they think politically, therefore, ending up into a heated argument. Democrats and Republicans have very different opposing viewpoints on gun control, abortion, and immigration.

Gun control has become a more personal topic at discussion due to all the school shootings these past years. The Republican party has publicly said to the citizens that freedom is nature and individual responsibility. Republicans believe in smaller government and fewer regulations. This law that allows the rights for Americans to own firearms is letting Republicans believe that American citizens should have the right to own, carry, and use guns. (RepublicanViews.org. “Home.” Republican Views, 2013) The Republicans viewpoints on the gun control stand with the first ten amendments of the Constitution describing ‘the undeniable rights of every individual American.’ In the amid of these undeniable rights is ‘the right to bear arms’ is written out in the Second Amendment. The main point regarding the Second Amendment gives individual rights to protect himself/herself, family, and their property.

g. On the other hand, Democrats support the second amendment the right to ‘keep and bear arms’ to guarantee people’s rights to protect themselves. The Democratic Party need stricter gun control regulations of firearms especially assault weapons. They also hope to focus more on enforcing existing gun laws, strengthening background checks system and reinstating assault weapons ban and finding and closing gun loopholes. What the Democratic Party hope to achieve to see gun control reform and believe is within the second amendment rights.

Abortion has always been a controversial topic and will always be, but for us women, it is our body we have the right authority whether to abort the child or letting other parents who can’t conceive a child to adopt a child of their own to have. The Republicans Party views on abortion beliefs are that an unborn child has individual rights to live in this country and shouldn’t be intruded upon on others. To guarantee the rights to all Americans the Republicans firmly believe in the fourteenth amendment which states ‘granted citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the United States—including former slaves—and guaranteed all citizens ‘equal protection of the laws.’ (Editors ’14th Amendment’ 2009) They support to end abortion entirely.

Also supporting to oppose all revenues in promoting or carrying out abortions and health care options to help abortions. In contrast what the Democrats viewpoint on women’s belief on abortion is allowing the women to choose the right to abort or not to abort the pregnancy. Even though Democratic Party believes in abortions to end an unwanted pregnancy, they also support sex education to decrease the numbers of unintended unwanted pregnancies. Because of supporting sex education has led Democrats to create programs explain birth control options for girls. The program they support is Planned Parenthood helping those in need with birth control pills cost, how to have safe sex, and asking a question there comfortable with.

By doing this Democrats hope to reduce the number of abortions, but not choosing the mother’s right to choose. They stand to say, ‘Our goal is to make abortion rare by family planning, sex education, and policies supporting healthy childbearing.” (RepublicanViews.org. “Home.” Republican Views, 2015) While Democrats believe health, care is affordable to women, but they also support providing financial aid to women who can’t financially support their child. Democrats states, ‘Every pregnant woman should be supported by affordable health care programs to help during the pregnancy and after the child is born.’

Everyone should have the freedom to live where he or she would like to live at. No law or border will or should stop people from moving to America to live the American dreams. Meanwhile, Republicans on different opposing viewpoints on believe in reforming immigration laws and addressing the more security. They want to tighten immigration laws to ensure a system that illegal immigrants who enter this country aren’t provided with the same benefits as legal citizens. Republican have been using extra resources to keep out those who try to enter illegally and as well of keeping track of those who enter and when they leave. Republicans only prioritized citizens who were granted legal citizenship such children, women, and men.

Conversely, Democrats view immigration on a different level as in the United States is a country solely based on immigration and should value the fact that the present and future is based on immigrants. Why not let immigrants in? For example, American citizens won’t take the low-income jobs why not give it to citizens, even though they are illegal citizens but are willing to do the low-income jobs such as mow the lawn, construction, painting, etc. They want to greatly reform the current immigration laws as in providing a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants, especially those who’ve been here as children. Democrats fundamental values are treating all people who come to the United States with respect and dignity and embrace immigrants.

In conclusion, why’s politics an unsettling topic of discussion? Because people have different opinions, therefore, it clashes with other people’s opinions who don’t agree then turns into an argument.
