Order NowElectricity is the physical phenomena arising from the behaviour of electrons and protons caused by the attraction of particles with opposite charges and the repulsion of particles with the same charge.
Electricity from a lemon is possible to get electricity from a lemon using strips of metal. The most readily available combination is copper and zinc. The zinc piece can be taken from the casing of an old carbon “D” cell (battery); some zinc coated nails may work as well. The copper can be a coin containing a high amount of copper. They are stuck into the lemon, and wires are attached to each one. The wires should be attached securely to form a good electrical contact. If the other ends of the wires are attached to a small bulb (flashlight bulb) there should be sufficient current to light it. Note that the metal pieces should be clean, and that they should not touch inside the lemon.
The electric current comes from the chemical reaction between the acid in the lemon and the zinc. Positively charged hydrogen in the acid oxidizes the zinc, causing electrons to flow from the zinc to the acid. In the process, some of the hydrogen in the acid is reduced to hydrogen gas. The copper merely completes the circuits.
Objectives
* To observe what is happening when the two wires join together.
* To be able to construct a Lemon battery.
Statement of the problem
* How can the lemon electricity help us in our daily lives?
Hypothesis
a. Alternative Hypothesis
* It can succour the community to supply more electricity.
b. Null Hypothesis
* It can’t succour the community to supply more electricity.
Importance of the study
Electricity has been part of our lives. It has brought many things that surely have made many wonders and life would seem so hard without it. Electricity powers our light, heating, electronic appliances such as computers and television, and a host of essential services that we take for granted. However, electricity has much more important aspects because it is a fundamental feature of all matter. Electricity is the force that holds together the molecules and atoms of all substances. The type of electricity that is most familiar to us is electrical current. This is the flow of electrical charges through a substance called a conductor such as a metal wire. This flow happens because some of the negatively charge electrons circling the nuclei of the conductors are held loosely. The electrons can move from one atom to the next, producing and electrical current.
Scope and Limitations
In talking about our topic, the LEMON BATTERY, it states that the experiment is all about electricity. Thus, it points out electrical current, positively charge protons, negatively charged electrons. Talking about lemon, lemon is a fruit that can produce certain electricity like flashlight bulbs. Lemon Battery explains how to lessen the use of electricity that comes from other conductors. This experiment can able to show what the essence of lemon in creating electricity is.
Definition of terms
Lemon
-(Citrus × limon) is a small evergreen tree native to Asia, and the tree’s ellipsoidal yellow fruit. The fruit’s juice, pulp and peel, especially the zest, are used as foods. The juice of the lemon is about 5% to 6% citric acid, which gives lemons a sour taste. The distinctive sour taste of lemon juice makes it a key ingredient in drinks and foods such as lemonade. * In our experiment, lemon is used to be the conductor to produce electricity
to a small bulb. Multi-tester
-Or millimetre is a device which can be used to gather data about electrical circuits. A basic multitester can measure resistance, voltage, and continuity; while more advanced versions may be able to provide additional data.
-it helps the user to measure the electric current of the lemon.
Wire
-is a single, usually cylindrical, flexible strand or rod of metal. Wires are used to bear mechanical loads and to carry electricity and telecommunications signals. Wire is commonly formed by drawing the metal through a hole in a die or draw plate. Standard sizes are determined by various wire gauges. The term wire is also used more loosely to refer to a bundle of such strands, as in ‘multi-stranded wire’, which is more correctly termed a wire rope in mechanics, or a cable in electricity. * It functions as the way of electricity to pass going to the bulb.
