Order NowRacism is discrimination that is directed against members of a different race or culture and believing that it is better than another one. Nobody has ever experienced a world without racism, this is due to the fact that racism has been spread and present in all countries and societies around the world for centuries. Racism is often expressed through distrust or contempt for people who are different from the majority. These differences can be of physical, cultural character, or based on a different background, such as a foreign nationality. It has been a natural reaction for people to be suspicious about the things that are strange to them. Sometimes this suspicion turns into anger, frustration, or fear, which can turn people into racists very easily. Some people become racists because ever since a young age, their family and friends taught them that being racist is right. Some people become racist because of something bad that happened to them by someone of a different race than them, such as a fight or a robbery. Some people simply listen to the media and take the attitudes that they see on television and on the radio and think that all of a particular race is a certain way.
That right there is stereotyping to its fullest. Where racism is present, so are racial stereotypes. Racial stereotypes are one of the most hurtful forms of racism. People can say racial stereotypes to someone and get away with it simply because of how popular they all are and how often they are said and used by people. Racism is one of the world’s greatest problems. It is one of the many reasons why world peace is non-existent today. Many people in our society have tried to find ways to eliminate racism but have met with very limited, if any, success. There are a number of methods that the government could employ to attempt to eliminate racism from our country. Campaigns promoting more multi –cultural events and celebrating the differences of everyone in our country could be effective in changing people’s perspective of other races, as the more contact and the more you know about the people outside of your “circle” the more comfortable you will become. Also the more effective solution, I believe, would be to encourage every business in the country to adopt a zero-tolerance policies regarding racism and by passing a law against it. This, I think, would make people realize that we are all the same and in the end, equals.
Racism is like a disease or illness. To get rid of it you have to fight against it. It all depends on you. Just like diseases or illnesses, racism can hurt people both emotionally and physically. In the past centuries, Racism has caused many deaths that we still remember today. In 1968 Martin Luther King was shot for speaking out against racism. In the 1930’s to 1945, millions of Jews died during the Holocaust just because of Hitler’s hate against them. I believe that racism is something that people, who do have it, can overcome, or as you can say, cure. I am not the only person who thinks this, Bob Marley, a very well known music artist believed this too. Now I hope everybody here knows who he is, and if not then after this you will. Bob Marley had this idea.
It was kind of a virologist idea. He believed that you could cure racism and hate… literally cure it, by injecting music and love into people’s lives. When he was scheduled to perform at a peace rally, a gunman came to his house and shot him down. Two days later he walked out on that stage and sang. When they asked him why he sang instead of simply resting at home – He said, “The people, who are trying to make this world worse… are not taking a day off. How can I? Light up the darkness.” By choosing to be racist, you are immediately trying to make the world worse because you are causing social division based on the colour of the person. We are all gods’ children, and god said that we should love everyone. Until people listen to him, racism might just lead to the downfall of the world.
