To Ratify or Not to Ratify

1. According to Article VII, the Constitution would go into effect when nine states ratified it. A fierce debate raged for months between the Federalists, who supported the Constitution, and the Anti-Federalists, who opposed it. What arguments did each group present? Fill in the chart below with a brief description of the main arguments.

They said if all the rights couldn’t be written out, none should be written out at all. Insisted on having the Bill of Rights on the constitution.
They also had wanted a strong national bank.
Never liked when everything was at peace the federalist had to have a army. They had believed that that having the Bill of Rights what total unnecessary. Never had agreed or approved in the the necessary and the proper clause and believed that it gave the government to much power. They had favored ratification on the constitution.

They had feared that a strong executive branch would have lead to monarchy.

2. If you had to choose sides, would you side with the Federalists or Anti-Federalists? Explain why you sided with the particular group by summarizing, in your own words, their arguments. Answer: I have to choose one side, it would have to be the Anti-Federalist because they were the ones that insisted on having the Bill of rights in the constitution. The Anti-Federalist also didn’t like that when everything was in peace the Federalist had to have a army. They never had agreed or approved in the necessary and the proper clause and believed that it gave way to much power to the national government. They have feared about things, but I believe they were going the right way on insisting on have the Bill of Rights staying.
