Order NowNew classes, new books, new cloths and even new people. Well, it all says something about college but the most obvious change is the new lifestyle college has to offer. Nothing can prepare freshmen for the taste of life the moment they step foot in the campus of they’re desire. Sure it comes with its perks but everything has a “catch” nonetheless and that’s where relationships play its part. There are two main types of relationship among students and that is monogamous and casual relationship.
Monogamous relationship is defined as being loyal to a single partner at a time. Whereas casual relationship is the opposite, a person involved in a casual relationship might have many partners or just one which is not serious. Relationships in the past used to be monogamous but as time passes, casual relationships are becoming more popular. But these choices are affected financially, mentally and physically. Based on the financial aspect, both monogamous and casual relationships have similarities.
Because nowadays, when we set foot out of the house we contribute to the economy. The amount of money spent depends on the social status of the couple in a relationship. According to a research done by ‘That Money Show’, an average teenager spends approximately 100 dollars a week. Since it’s a couple, then an average couple spends more than 200 dollars per week which is a large sum of cash for some teens without any after-college jobs. Another fact is that both of these types of relationship require the couple to have a certain amount of money to survive.
So financial wise, both kinds of relationship don’t vary in a large scale. While financially, both relationships are similar, health wise, there are clear differences. Point in case, couple’s whom practice monogamous relationship is more likely to only be sexually active with their partner. According to ‘The Utah Statesman’, when people have unprotected sex, especially with multiple partners, the risk of them getting STD’s is very high. This shows that a casual relationship; which allows the other to fool around with many other people, gives the exact risk.
This is shown to increase the rate of STD and HIV cases among teenagers. Teenagers at the age of 18 to 19 which is the time they go to college has the highest percentage of HIV victims. Another important point is that most monogamous couple’s are more responsible in preventing an accidental pregnancy which is very important for sexually active teens today. Contrary to that, casual couple’s just have irresponsible sex leaving abortion what they think is their only choice.
This indirectly affects the rate of abortion in the country. Finally, the differences between a monogamous and casual relationship based mentally. There are clear differences among the two. A couple’s mental health is not the same between the two types of relationship. In a monogamous relationship, the bond and caring towards each other is closer which lowers the risk of depression for either person in that relationship. Whereas, a casual relationship is not based on bonding or caring but is more popular among students in college to be solely based on sex.
This could lead to emotional breakdowns and a sense of loneliness for the individual that is victimized in this situation. Couple’s in a monogamous relationship also tend to be more contended with life compared to the latter. The matter of fact is, monogamous and casual relationship’s both have their ups and downs but the right decision is always the hard one. So, summarising the points above monogamous relationship offers a more intimate and caring couple experience which some students compare it to marriage.
But, it’s a way to teach a young growing adult to be responsible and more dedicated to his or her companion. On the other hand, a casual relationship is a more fun and exciting experience where sex, sex and more sex fills their life. To many college undergraduates it’s the best thing that can ever happen to you, but based on the research, there are more cons than pros to this type of relationship. In the end, it all depends on what are your preferences but our study shows that monogamous relationships are the way to go.
