How men are represented in Bridget Jones and Sleepless in Seattle

In Bridged Jones men are represented in a stereotypical way and a non-stereo typical way because mark Darcy was represented in a kind, loving, desperate person but Daniel cleaver is represented as a player, cheat and as a violent person. Bridget was the complete opposite of a stereotypical woman. She was rude, loving and weird; she also smokes and drinks alcohol. These are three protagonists of this film.

In Sleepless in Seattle Annie Reed was represented in a stereotypical because Annie is shown desperate, loving and caring. Sam was shown as a non-stereotypical way as he was shown as loving, caring and a loving dad. These 2 are the protagonists of this film.

In the following paragraphs in going to be talking about how the men were represented in the two films.

In Bridget Jones they were shown as aggressive when they both had a fight against each other. This tells us that they are desperate for the girl and that they are violent. While they are fighting they are in the dark this signifies their inner darkness and badness. In most of the fight Daniel is lower than Mark this signifies that Mark is more dominant.

Mark Darcy is shown as loving and caring when he goes to buy a diary for Bridget. This tells us that he caring as he buys Bridget a new diary to start a new life. When he is giving the diary to Bridget he’s face is half in light, the light signifies that he is slowly moving towards the good side.

Daniel is shown as a cheat and a player when he is caught cheating on Bridget. This proves that Daniel is not caring and loving. From this we can see that he’s not a stereotypical man because he’s a cheat and not a serious lover whereas a stereotypical man will be the complete opposite.

In the scene where Mark is talking to he’s mum we could see that mark has a rude side as well. We know this because Mark talks about Bridget in an impolite manner. We can also see that Mark is dominant in this scene as he is shown bigger on the screen and Bridget is just in the background.

We can see Daniel is violent in the scene where he is in the car with Bridget as he roars like a tiger, this signifies him as a tiger and violent. He also revs the engine to show he’s masculinity.

In Sleepless in Seattle Tom hanks is represented kind and loving we can see this from the scene where he’s on the phone to the radio station. This scene shows us that he is kind and caring as he talks about he’s wife who passed away. He also describes he’s love as “magic” this tells us he doesn’t take love as a joke. He’s face in cover half in darkness and half in light, the light signifies the good side and dark signifies the bad side. This tells us he’s slowly moving towards the light.

He is shown as a good and caring father when he plays with he’s son at the beach. This tells he cares about he’s son and again shows us he’s loving. While this is happening he is covered in light this signifies he has a good side in him.

Sam was shown not experienced in love when he was asking out Suzy. This shows us he hasn’t been after a lot of woman and that he is not desperate for one. While he was asking her out he was fidgeting a lot and this again show he’s lack of confidence. He was also covered in he’s work papers while he was asking her out for a date, his might indicate that he’s work is dominating he’s love life. We can also see that the woman is dominant as she makes all the decisions. The music also signifies that he’s back in the game.

We can tell that Sam is not desperate and doesn’t want a date when he ignores all the letters that he gets. This tells us he only loves one person which is he’s wife who passed away.

We could also see again that Sam is not experienced in love when he’s having a talk with he’s friend. From this scene we can see that he hasn’t been in love for long and doesn’t know how to date someone.

From these both films we can see that they have represented their Actors in a completely opposed way. In Bridget jones the men are desperate but in sleepless in Seattle we can see that the men aren’t desperate. We can also see that in Bridget Jones the men are violent but in sleepless In Seattle they are caring and loving. From these films we can tell that in Bridget Jones the men are not serious about love but in Sleepless in Seattle they are. So in sleepless in Seattle they use decent men and in Bridget Jones they use Bad men

In the following paragraphs I will be analysing how woman are represented in Bridget Jones and Sleepless in Seattle.

Bridget jones is the complete opposite to a stereotypical woman, Bridget smokes, drinks alcohol and she is desperate. She can also be loving and kind.

We can see Bridget is unwise when she does her awful speech about the book. This tells us that she’s not educated well. We can also tell she has no manners as she calls out “oi” to everyone to catch their attentions.

We can also see her rude again in scene where she is talking Daniel while quitting the job. She insults Daniel by telling him “But if staying here means makes we work within 10 yards frim you frankly I’d rather have a job wiping Saddam Hussein’s arse”. This tells us that she can be a rude if someone’s does something bad to her.

We can see she is a very emotional woman when she is all alone in her house. This tells us she can be sensitive at times. This also tells us she wants someone like a boyfriend. While this is happening she’s covered in darkness which signifies sadness.

She also has a good side we can see this when she tries giving up smoking, drinking and losing weight. This tells us she wants to fix up and start new life. While she is trying to fix up her face is half in light, the light signifies goodness. So this means she’s moving from the bad side to the good.

We can also see she is brave when she speaks up in the party. This tells us she would do anything for love and that she takes it seriously but again we can also see her lack of confidence when she stumbles a lot in her speech.

She is shown that she likes sex while she is in bed with Daniel. We know she likes it as she says “hello this is the sex goddess” on the phone. This tells us she has a naughty side as well.

However in Sleepless in Seattle we can see that the women are stereotyped. They are emotional, desperate and affectionate.

We can see they are emotional while they are watching the film, the cry as they say the words. This tells us that they are very sensitive.

We can also see she is not confident and brave enough to go meat Sam as she throws away the letter she wrote to him. This tells us she is not courageous to go meet him. We can also see she is not brave when she sees him at the beach as she is face to face with him but all she says is hello.

However she does get brave nearer to the end, we can see this when she gives back the ring to Walter and says no to the engagement. This tells us she believes in her love and will do anything to get there.

We can the woman are in Sleepless in Seattle are desperate when Sam gets millions of letter from woman all over the states. This tells us they are stereotypical.

We can see she is affectionate and kind when she runs to the empire state building. She does all of this just for her love, this tells us she is affectionate and loving. We can see she is kind when she talks to Jonah and Sam.

So from these two films we can see that the women in Bridget Jones are not desperate but in Sleepless in Seattle they are. We can also see that in Sleepless in Seattle they are very sensitive but in Bridget jones they are not that sensitive. However they are both shown affectionate and kind at some scenes.
