Maroubra is a beach suburb, which is far away about 10 kilometers south- east from CBD, while Kogarah, a residential one, is far away 14 kilometers south of the CBD. Although they are different in many ways, they have several similarities. This report will compare and contrast aspect and features of people, housing and services. There are some similarities and differences in people. To begin with, Maroubra’s population is larger than Kogarah with 26.500 people while Kogarah has 10.900 people. However, in both suburbs, the largest group is from 20 years old to 39 years old nearly 32% for both. Regarding background and country of origin, both suburbs have approximately the same. For example, percentage of people who is born in Australia is about 50% for both. The housing of the two suburbs differs greatly in median house and apartment price. Firstly, median house price in maroubra is over one million dollars whereas it is about 650.000 dollars in Kogarah.
Secondly, Maroubra has a median apartment price higher than Kogarah ( $575.000 and $420.000 respectively ). Though, the proportion of apartment dwellers in both suburbs is quite similar. Finally, there are some varieties in services. The two suburbs have many services such as transport, retail, hospitals and education facilities. With aspect to transport, there is a train station in Kogarah while Maroubra hasn’t one. However, percentage of people who drive to work is the same in both suburbs. Regarding retail, Maroubra and Kogarah have a shopping Centre, small shops and cafes. In terms of hospitals, there are many private clinics and major hospital, but it is about 3 kilometer to go to a major hospital in Maroubra. Besides that, Education facilities in both Sydney suburbs are also developed. There are many schools from primary to secondary.
