The industrial revolution was a period from 1750 to 1850 where changes in agriculture, manufacturing, mining, transportation, and technology has a profound effect on the social, economic and cultural conditions of the times. It began in Great Britain, then subsequently spread throughout Western Europe, Northern America, Japan, and eventually the rest of the world. The Industrial Revolution marks a major turing point in history. Almost every aspect of daily life was influenced in some way, some begin positive influences, and some being negative.

There were many positive effects that came from the Industrial Revolution. The machinery raised the wages of spinners and weavers owing to the great prosperity it brought to trade.(document 2) This was beneficial because the working class was earning more money, and it eventually lead to the golden age. Another positive effect was the machines such as the steam-engine. The steam-engine was producing cheap goods in less time. The people would then exchange goods with foreign lands to get the every day essentials.(document 3) Finally, The recognition of the legitimacy of the right to work for men and women was a positive effect. (document 7) This is because women are finally being treated as an equal to men. Now women can earn money as well as the men. Although there were many positive outcomes from the industrial revolution, there were just as many negative.

The Industrial Revolution caused many negatives effects on the European society. Larger cities were produced and Great Britain became largely populated. (document 4). This was a negative effect because there was not enough jobs as there was people, resulting in many people having little to no money. The people that did find work; the working class were packed into slums, and many were poverty stricken.(document 5) Lastly, the conditions in which people were living was lacking cleanliness. (document 6) In many of the places in which people lived there was not sewage,running water or sanitation system. No sanitation meant the streets were filled with trash, this resulted in diseases such as cholera. Therefore the industrial revolution brought about great hardship and discomfort.

Almost every aspect of daily life was influenced in some way, some begin positive influences, and some being negative. Although many people benefited from the industrial revolution, many others were faced with hardship. The Industrial revolution had a great impact on the world in which it ended the agriculture society, opened a gateway to the global world, fastened development of new technology, and gave birth to capitalism and anti-capitalism (communism). To conclude the Industrial Revolution had many positive and negative effects not only in the European society , but around the world.
