Policies and procedures for safeguarding and child protection in settings for children and young people in England and Wales are the result of legislation passed in parliament, including: In England and Wales, The Children Act 1989 and the Children Act 2004/in Northern Ireland, Children (Northern Ireland) Order 1995 – These acts were brought in with the aim of simplifying the laws that protect children and young people.
